I only seen “The Fighter” once, it was a very good movie and of course the singing of “Joke” was a nice touch. I think she had just picked up her son from a bad situation. I didn’t know this about the director. I think it would help that he’s a fan, but is he a “true fan”? LOL! Terry, we should both learn to appreciate having The Power to be Utterly Ignored -- it's truly a rare gift. :)

By the way, I'm not familiar with the "Spencer's Birthday Song" that you had referenced. Mostly I find Bee Gees rarities on YouTube.

Here's one that's been vexing me:

It's called "Mind Over Matter," and dates back to 1981 or thereabouts. It's one of those songs that keeps trying to get stuck in my head good and proper, but never quite does. And why? No actual lyrics!!

Barry is singing a songwriter's demo, which is meant to capture the essence of a song, with lyrics to be sorted out later.

Here's the songwriting demo to a song you might know:

Since I have, from early childhood, turned "being SO annoying" into something of an art form, I keep this one handy. If I'm kept waiting and waiting and waiting for the county clerk to finally stop refilling his stapler and attend to my

After all, I could just play that earworm of a songwriting demo instead!

Admittedly, while standing at the clerk's window, I've never actually played the "He's a Liar--First Cast and Demo" (see link above). But it cheers me up to know that I could. The drum machine, Barry's nasal vocalising of gu

But... back to Mind Over Matter. This is much more pleasing to listen to, and almost... but not quite... has actual lyrics. If you can call "mumble mumble mumble apologize" an actual lyric. But then he sings "Youuuuuuuuur FACE!! yadada

But not well enough to compel me to sing "brmff srrrrrn grmm summmmm!" while waiting for the bus.

So, 38 years, more or less. With no lyrics. Is there any way to ask Barry and his kids to finish this one? Or should I just write my own lyrics for this??

Well... if you should run into Barry at some point, could you ask? Thanks.

The guy's a real Bee Gees fan. he has used a Bee Gees song prominently in 3 of his movies. There is a great scene in "The Fighter' where Christian Bale's character and his mother (Melissa Leo,who won an academy award for best supporting actress for her role in the film) sing "I Started a Joke" in their car.  Russell on the Bee Gees: They're operatic and fun and poppy, but also serious". I tell you he gets them. I know being a fan of the subject of a film is not a requirement, but I have to think it would be an advantage. He probably would have his heart in it. I think a screenwriter would use all sources of information and not one book.  Then run it by Barry and the wives for further input.  I do not doubt there are several out there already.  I think we are entering into a new genre of filmmaking.  It should be interesting considering they had three distinct periods.  I saw "Summer" the play in NYC and they had three different actresses play Donna Summer.  One for childhood, one for her period of immense success and one for the last few years of her life.  Excellent show even if it did gloss over her "AIDS is God's way of punishing" phase which cost her bankruptcy along with her record company.
