I'm not so sure it' true. Firstly, I think the notion that Barry was withering away without much a life is likely overblown. He had his wife and family and (I suspect) a very small circle of close friends. He's always been a family man and
Did Linda encourage him to get a little active again and get out of the house and whatever rut he was sort of in? I'm sure she did.
Did Robin's death add to that motivation? Maybe. You have to remember Barry did those first couple of shows when Robin was still alive, albeit gravely ill. I think one can infer Barry already had his mind set on doing those concerts already.
Lastly, and I'm always a little uncomfortable to put this out there, but with Robin gone Barry did have the freedom to do what he wished. By that I mean no pressure from Robin nor any one else e.g. the industry, their
