I've been to Batley, courtesy Graham Gooch, who has not been spotted here
in a few years. Well we just drove through but that should count. It looked
pretty grim. It was a grey late afternoon in October, granted, but I don't
think that totally explained it. Google maps shows a neighborhood in town
called Soothill. I can't make this stuff up.
We had not planned to go to Batley. But a sign on the motorway said it was
the next exit, so what could we do? As a result of no planning we didn't
know where the Batley Variety Club had been. Wikipedia tells me it is now
the Frontier Club, and if the A652 is the road we took, then we did go past
it. According to this
the Variety Club actually featured top caliber acts. Who knew? Did the Bee
Gees mislead us? Never!
Back to David's comment. I don't think Robin would play small venues, even
being dead and all. It does sound like the Prebendal, which is not large
either as venues go, would be a tough club to get into. "But I was the
owner!" "That's what they all say, bub. We'll call YOU."

If Florida held its gubernatorial debates at the Jones Beach Theater, Charlie Crist wouldn’t have had to use his controversial Vornado fan the other night. (At least that’s my judgment, based on the view I had from the “cheap” seats at Barry’s concert.)
Sorry -- I thought I had gotten over that hellish venue …

Oh dear lord, I can see it now. Robin is pissed at D. and R.J.'s
handling of his affairs, etc..., and, with Ollie (I believe that is the
name of the wolfhound that died), will make sure D. et al are properly
uncomfortable and scared with his haunting. But, seriously, if R. was a
spirit, or whatever, I would imagine he would use his very unmistakable
voice to make his presence known. One hearing of even a ghostly version
of R.'s voice would be enough to a. know who is haunting and b. scare
the crap out of anyone (given he is dead and all). Yasmine

Well, Robin wasn't THE owner. He was the most recent in a line of dead
owners. And previous owners may have voted him out of haunting rights, due
to an unfortunate incident involving popcorn in the microwave or some such
thing.
It makes sense, doesn't it? In interviews he said the place was haunted.
Whoever was haunting the place surely had formed opinions about Robin and
Dwina. And they may have been disinclined to let him haunt.
They may have waved an album cover in his face, and said, "according to
THIS, your address is 50 St Catherine Drive." Which just goes to show the
overwhelming importance of having ID and passport buried with you...
David Garcia, who imagines Robin's spirit singing "Saved by the Bell" at
Balmoral Castle and frightening the corgis in NYC
(Apologies to Anne for dragging corgis into all this)
