Around that time people were talking about video albums as a possible
future of the music business. MTV and music videos were a happening thing.
Barry always liked to be on top of the latest stuff. So, what Sal said.
R & M didn't want him to do an album! They were busy doing Robin albums. As
long as Barry kept himself busy he wouldn't be bothering them.

Yet it's Barry who makes it appear as if he was the brother that was put upon, so to speak. Actually, Barry often intimates that was the case and I just don't get it because ultimately, Barry certainly seemed to have gotten his way more than R&M did.
One last thing about this issue, if R&M were against Barry doing a solo album then why did Maurice, and to a lesser extent Robin, help him with co-writing some of the material for the album?
