The reference to High Civ as "a vague concept record" is a dead giveaway. As for the interview with Barry, I was a little taken back by Barry's take on NV (and it's lack of success apparently) saying that he really didn't try because R&M didn't want him to make a solo album. Huh?? I wonder if Barry is aware that there are still Sal Salvatore Compoccia compoccia@aol.com Back to top

Well, him and Michael Hordern, that famous actor who hung around the pool. Barry may have had unfulfilled ambitions to be in front of the movie cameras, and since the box office poison that was the Sgt Pepper film was a hint not taken by him, he used his album as an excuse to make his own film vehicle. In other words, Now Voyager was a multimedia vanity project with a suplementary soundtrack album of Barry Gibb songs. Having said that, I have to admit I enjoyed both film and album. But yeah, I wasn't impressed by his acting, and I am someone who is embarrassingly easy to impress... . David Garcia, knows it isn't "only a pool" in NYC . Yes David, but what does all that have to do with R&M? Or more specifically, what does it have to with them holding Barry back in any way regarding NV, which I think was the clear implication from Barry's comments. As for the album being a supplementary soundtrack to the film (if that's what it was) I really think it was the other way around. The film and the videos supplemented the album. I agree that Barry must have seen the film as an opportunity to showcase his I have thought that the failure of NV and MCA's subsequent rejection of Barry's follow-up solo album two years later really stung Barry. Some of his later comments hint at some of those leftover bitter feelings. Sal Salvatore Compoccia compoccia@aol.com Back to top
