I have mentioned it before, but way back in 1995 or 1996, rebel that I was, went into one of the UseNet news groups alt.rock&Roll or something, but it was a Rock Music newsgroup, and just to piss some people off I posted, "Bee Gees Rule!" I expected to get hammered by the hard rock fans. Well, that didn't happen. What did happen was I received an email from Joe Brennan telling me about a Bee Gees list named Jive Talking that I guy name Grant Walters had created. I joined right away. When Grant had to close his list, I had an opportunity to put up the "Words" list to keep the Jive Talking Bee Gees fans together. It was fun! It was also very difficult at times with the flame wars, and many, many, many hours fighting with Internet Providers over spam complaints, black lists/blocked IP's, etc. Tons and tons of hours over the years doing regular backups and server maintenance and updates. Pretty lucky though, I think we only went through 5 machines. The list server went from Rhode Island, the Dominican Republic, then to Miami, then back to Rhode Island, with very minimal downtime. I am very proud of how the list was, I did my very best to be a good list manager. Sadly, I feel the list could have been so much more, if I had the ability, the time and energy to really build membership and to market the list, not for financial gain, I was never about that, but to go out and telling others about the magic of the Bee Gees music and a safe place called "Words & Music" Fans Of The Brothers Gibb. In this I feel I failed. And I am sorry to you all. I have met some life long friends, and I hope to stay connected. I will also be closing the cmathis@brothersgibb.com email address in the near future. Speaking of domains, if anyone has any good ideas for any of my Gibb Related Domains, or if anyone wants to purchase any of them, please let me know: Brothersgibb.com Brothersgibb.net RobinGibb.org I am mostly going to miss the playful banter and teasing. I was looking at the Words List membership email addresses yesterday, and it really, really saddened me. I know these email addresses, and most of the people connected to them. Any many of these people have been on the list right from the very start back in 19961. I even loved the lurkers. You were there, but you were hear for the same reason the rest of us were. Love of the Gibb Brothers Music. To those that posted regularly, thank you, you really made the list. I really hope I was able to provide an enjoyable meeting place, so many years. I sincerely hope I was a good list manager and a friend to you all. If anyone would like to stay in touch, my new email account will be: cmathis@ask54.com ***It's not setup yet*** It will setup by Tuesday. I am going to very much miss the list. It has been a profound friend to me, a savior at times, and my sanity at times as well. The list has been part of my family for almost 27 years! And I am going to miss all of you. Many of you became my extended family. FOR NOW, If you would to send any personal notes, please send them to me at: cmathis@terminalmadness.com Not to the list, as the list is in process of being closed. Thank you are for being a member of the list, you have really meant a lot to me, sincerely. Signing off, ...----===*Chris. Back to top
