I had the same experience around the same time in a small record store in
Greenwich Village. I had been thinking to myself that with Barry busy on so
many projects, Robin and Maurice must have time to do something together.
But back then in the dark ages I had no idea that they were in fact working
on a record until I saw it. It came as a great and welcome surprise. It was
dream-like. Was I really seeing this? I think the sleeve was stamped in
silver as "reviewer copy not for sale" but the store wanted a few bucks
from me that I was happy to pay.
Some years earlier a different Village shop owner let me flip through the
45s, and that is where I found a single I did not know about, namely Jumbo
and The Singer Sang His Song. He also had New York Mining Disaster on a 45
that ran 3:45 according to the label, but I compared the grooves in the
vinyl with a normal 2:09 copy and convinced myself that it was an error on
the label.
It was things like this that started me making a list of all their records.
The rest is history. Well, my procrastination on doing Gibb Songs 2019 has
not yet reached an end, but I think everyone who cares knows about the two
Barry-written songs performed by others. And if you don't, there's a thing
called the Interwebs that we didn't have in the seventies and eighties.

Oh I had dreams. One in particular I remember to this day.
The worst of it all, was that I already knew it was a dream. And it wasn't
the first dream.
Lots of dreams in which I found a truck stop or a Woolworths bargain bin.
And there were not one, but many albums I'd never heard of. And I kept
digging through the bin for more. And finding more. But I woke up before
buying anything.
But this time was different. In this dream I knew it was a dream. And knew
I kept waking up without buying anything. So I took the cassettes to the
register and gave them my credit card. They rang it up, returned my card to
me, and gave me the bag.
I went outside. I opened the bag. The tapes were all there.
Then I woke up. As I knew I would. But this time was okay. Because, this
time, I bought them. I left the store with them. Mission accomplished! I
could listen to them right away, if I...
...could find them.
Oh. That's right. It was just a dream.

Agreed. For instance, Bradley Cooper is in his 40's. How does he play 20 year-old Barry in 1967?
Their long career presents a chaleenge for a true biopic. That's why my wish would be for a several part miniseries.
