A heated discussion has broken out, off this list, about who is singing the lead vocal, the parts with lyrics. Is it Barry or Robin? I think we need some more ears that are well attuned to the Gibb Brothers experience. Would anyone care to give it a fresh listen and share an opinion? I can't believe we've got a song where veteran fans cannot tell B and R apart. But the singer is deliberately putting on a strange voice. Joe Brennan Back to top

Very difficult with some of those early 1966-67 recordings to tell the difference between B&R vocals, in spite of different voices. Not to mention all I'll split the baby and say they are trading lead vocals. Sal compoccia@aol.com Back to top

Date: Wed, 18 Jan 2017 16:30:20 -0500 From: David Garcia <garcia10303@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Deeply Deeply Me Having heard that song once, ages ago, it had not yet occurred to me to ever listen to it a second time. But, since you ask... I listened here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_LtKH4eVHtk I mention this in case, Lord help us, there is more than one version of this. It is a demo, and multitracked voices can't be entirely ruled out. Having said that, I'm ruling them out. And yet, at about the 1:05 mark on the above link, the titular phrase sounds double tracked. So... that is Barry and Robin singing "Deeply deeply" etc. in unison. Prior to that is Robin singing a verse. No one else could possibly be that elaborately annoying. Until we hit the next verse, which smacks us hard at 1:40, we have the two brothers (Barry and Robin) compete in trading annoying whiny warbles between themselves, like kids on a school bus. If I were the bus driver, I would have pulled over at that point. At 1:40, the second verse begins. Robin wouldn't be this subdued and musical. It's Barry, sounding more bluesy in ending his phrases. From 2:19 forward, Barry dominates the brothers' two part unison whining till the song's end. It would make,a great ringtone for Scooter's friends, if they still called. Last summer, week after week, people with an odd accent would call me and ask if Scooter was here. I would always patiently tell them it was the wrong number, I've never known anyone named Scooter. It was the sort of accent that rarely exists out of certain Monty Python routines. But the calls continued. It would be a perfect ringtone for Scooter's friends. I would know by that ringtone to pry the battery out of my phone and carry on. I hope this clears things up. . David Garcia, who suspects that Scooter joined a Witness Protection Program long ago in NYC .
