Who does the back-up singing on "Buried Treasure" by Kenny Rogers? The chorus is one of the easiest to remember =97 it is so catchy and the harmonies are excellent! On a recent shopping excursion in a nearby town, I found to my delight (and the cashier's great amusement) a BeeGees LP holder, circa 1979, in an antique store. It has photos of the brothers on both sides, and that great logo they were using in the late 1970s. Also I have discovered that there must be a BeeGees fan in a restaurant here at home. The last two times that I have eaten there (in the past two weeks) the background music has been side 2 of Bee Gees Greatest. Awesome food and music! Well back to lurk mode, Eugenia ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 19:47:41 -0400 From: "Anne Simpson" Subject: Re: What was the bait for you guys? {01} >Robin- Ever since I heard Robin's voice, I was taken away to 'Bee Gee Land.' >In fact, I don't know if it was Bee Gees Land...but it was somewhere I have >never been before. Since this is not an Agony Aunt column, I`ll keep it brief. I was a fan in my teens (70`s). Then I married and had sons, and my favourite sound became the silence at the end of a hard day. Then came a really bad period, which resulted in my suffering from severe depression. Doc said I`d be on tranquilisers for a month, then anti-depressants for months after. Leaving the surgery, I had to pass the library to get to the chemist. I found myself coming out the library with a copy of "One". Came home - played it and the healing began. Days later, I found the unused prescription at the bottom of my bag. That was years ago, and I never did go for those damned pills. And why do I adore each of them - I think you did a better job than I could, putting that into words. Jean. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 19:57:03 -0400 From: "Anne Simpson" Subject: Re: What was the bait for you guys? -----Original Message----- From: The South Going Zax To: words List Member Date: June 29, 1999 5:33 PM Subject: Re: What was the bait for you guys? >Okay- this is gonna be fun.. here goes.. >all of a sudden, the documentary went off- and ONO >came on... so I watched it and taped it.. and I >decided I was definately gonna like those guys after >Robin sang.. OK: Here's the situation -- I was visiting my Mom last weekend and she had her COUNTRY cable station on the tv. As we were playing a mean game of cribbage (which I won), I heard a part of a song that I instantly recognized. It lasted only a few seconds, and it was a promo for the station's new videos to be aired in coming weeks. I said to my Mom "What station is this?" and she replied "the country video request channel". Now imagine my mother's surprise when I wanted to stop playing cards so I could see what was going on with this country station. Well, I watched solidly for over an hour before the promo was on again. But it was the just the song, blended with other country songs while they showed videos of other artists. I was confused to say the least, but I was not confused on what song it was. Any guesses out there? Well, I have no idea who was singing it, but it was a male. And what I heard was "And all the hearts in all creation Somehow I always end up alone Always end up alone" Now who in the world recorded ALONE as a country song? Does anybody know? I checked the record stores, but had no luck finding anything. Am I the only one who has heard this? This country cable station is on Media General Cable in Fairfax, VA. Anybody else on the list from the area and might have run across this? Can anyone else just imagine ALONE as a country song? Anyway I am going to continue to search and find this thing. I am curious as to what the whole song sounds like. Cathy, A 27 year fan from Alexandria, Virginia who knows a BEE GEE song when she hears one, even though her mother says she's nuts to think it was a BEE GEES tune on her country channel. (the same response from her in 1983 when I told her who wrote ISLANDS IN THE STREAM!) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 11:07:00 +1000 From: "Crohan, Mark" Subject: Frankie Valli Ever wonfdered why Frankie Valli was chosen to sing the hit ' Grease' from the soundtrack. For some reason I had always thought that the" Four seasons" (of which he was lead singer) were a successfful band from the fifties when the movie was set. Wrong !! The four seasons had the first hit in the early sixties. so why was Valli chosen? They're music is so real because it's reality >friend told me this. > >You have about said it all, but let me tell you a true story that has been >medically proven. I have what they call "white jacket high blood pressure" when I go to the doctor's office and have my blood pressure taken it is always very high, yet at home I have normal blood pressure. So the last time I went to the doctor's I put on "Still Waters album" and listened as I drove the 15 miles to the doctor's. I got there early so sat in the car listening for another 10 minutes. When I went in and the nurse took my blood pressure it was so low she could not believe it. I had the chance to tell her about listening to the Bee Gees and all about their album "Still Waters". So I say that is proof that their music is very healthy to listen to. We all know how healing to the spirit and soul it is, but it is also healing to the body. It was a beautiful day in May of 1970 ( I was 18) and my favorite band, the Beatles, were no more. And I needed a replacement quickly! I had a friend by the name of Lester (Puddy) Rooks (isn't that a marvelous name?) who was always bragging about this group called the Bee Gees so I thought what the heck? Somehow I had purchased "Cucumber Castle" and loved basically every song, taked by the melodicism, especially "If Only I Had My Mind On Something Else." So it was strange, I being on the rebound from a former love and well I chose the Bee Gees as my #1 band based on an interim LP wherein Robin Gibb did not even appear! Then I began to purchase the Bee Gees LP's retroactively and couldn't believe each of them had so much quality, class, and craftmanship throughout! In retrospect finding the Bee Gees at this time saved me from having to deal with the pain of their sad breakup in 1969. I had just been through that with the Beatles and once was enough. So I kind of grew up with the Bee Gees and saw them live five times starting in 1971 in Asbury Park, NJ when they appeared with the Bill Shepherd Orchestra and the Convention Hall was half full! So all my friends knew how much I loved them, but six years later they were the hottest ticket in show business and I was "delirious with pleasure." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 21:07:27 -0500 From: "Doug Wilson" Subject: RE: Buried Treasure Actually you don't need a noted authority, just check the liner notes . To those that are interested, the "Words & Music, Fans Of The Brothers Gibb" Archives are now available for download. What are List Archives? List Archives are List previous list digests, previous messages that have been sent and posted on the "Words" mailing list. So if by chance you missed some list mail, accidentally formatted your hard drive, you can search and retrieve "back issues". While only the last week or so are available now, I have received email from a couple of list members that have all of the list archives since I moved. (just over a year) I "had" them, but lost them while moving the list server to another machine. They will also be available as soon as I receive them and can make them available. To find out more information on how to receive the List Archives, please see one of the following web pages: http://www.beegees.org or http://www.wsii.com/users/cmathis/words Just on 'Archives'. Anyway, the background music of the commercial is one of the remake/updated versions of Stayin' Alive. I can't for the life of me think of the group's name, but I believe they are mentioned in the Keppel Road video. Still, I'll take the Bee Gees' music any way I can get it.
