Although I've been a fan of the Bee Gees for a good many years, I sometimes feel that it has been a lifetime! But for each fan there must be a starting point, and yours is "Still Waters"! However, you must look at your predicament in the right light...As a new fan, you have so much more to discover from the Bee Gees past, present...and look forward to the future! Unlike many groups from the 60's and 70's, the Bee Gees are still going strong and showing no signs of weakness, rather their powers to write winning and thoughtful compositions have been enhanced by the experiences of maturity. Everytime they put out a new album, I look forward to something new, yet there will always remain the special touches that have always made them unique!!! Whether it be their trademark harmonies, falsettos, or that friendly laughter of Barry's that make all of us smile!! Listening to the Bee Gees music is like taking a refreshing walk along the beach, just before the rest of the world wakes, and greedily taking in the fresh air! So fine, so pure, and extra special. Forgive me as I get lost in my own thoughts, but the point is, Narissa, that you will find so much to enjoy about the Bee Gees, in their rich vault of music and unique personalities! So you state that you've only been a fan since "Still Waters", but you now have a lifetime to explore every song, listen to every note, and always remember the cd that started it all!!! Mine will always be "Main Course"!!!! Hmmm, I do have a special fondness for that lovely girl bathing in the spoon. I'll allude to that thought another time! Anyway, Narissa, it was wonderful reading your thoughts. I hope you stay with this list a long time! May we all stay long... SIR GEOFFREY ... Whispering thoughts across time! What a great question! Too bad I didn't think of it myself. I think the reason I fell in love with the Bee Gees, in particular Barry, was because of their voices. While other artists are "studio" voices, the Bee Gees are real. I mean, they sing exac ly as they would on cd, which I appreciate. Nothing phony about them. Sure, they have their personal egos and foibles, but there is something pretty special about the boys. Robin has the most emotional voice. Some of his songs have actually made me cry. I'd like to have him record a book of romantic poems for me to listen to every night before I go to bed. Maurice is the happy one. Dancing and joking and his voice is sweet. I wish he would sing more often. I don't know, but I get the feeling he is shy. Barry, my favorite, I like to refer to as "Hairy Barry". He has such a smooth voice like silk. I think he is the most talented of the three, and I've heard that he's a workaholic when it comes to writing music. In my book, he can do no wrong. My fav rite song of his is "Words", especially the ending part. And would it be too forward of me to saying that he has the most amazing giggle. The bait that took me was their amazing voices, and then when I started seeing their pictures, I was completely won over. I hope they will sing forever. How I wish to have been a fan from the very beginning, but I guess I'm happy to be a fan since the late 80's. Rock on, Bee Gees! That was my first inkling to them. So I was aware of them for some time. In 1977 I became ill, which turned into panic attacks. I did not leave my house for 2 years. I tried many times to leave my house, but could not. The only place I went was to the doctors. I became very much involved with the Brothers work and read everything I could get my hands on. My husband bought all their music and even signed me up in their fan club. I would just sit in my room and read and listen to their music. One day, while in the hospital, I heard that they were coming to my area, the "Spirits Having Flown" tour in 1979. I told my husband to please try and get tickets to the concert, that I wanted to try and go. For several months before the concert, I prayed that somehow I would find the strength to go. To make a long story short, I went. It was the first time I went out some place other then medical reasons. They were the reason I started to get my life back. I will always be greatfull. As for liking one more than the other, I always thought it was Barry, but really thinking about it, each one has a special part that I like. There sense of family seems to be so great and the way they treat their fans says a lot about them. They do and will always hold a large part of my heart. THANK YOU BEE GEES. , ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 15:05:54 EDT From: BGFn4LIF@aol.com Subject: Re: Digest (06/29/1999 12:00) (#1999-317) {02} In a message dated 6/29/99 1:48:50 PM Central Daylight Time, BGGrandmom@AOL.COM writes: << One day, while in the hospital, I heard that they were coming to my area, the "Spirits Having Flown" tour in 1979. My first discovery of The Bee Gees was a 2 45s I found on the floor behind my Mother's dresser, that said- SINKING SHIPS, SIR GEOFFREY SAVED THE WORLD, MASSACHUETTS, and WORDS... Sinking ships struck me as rather interesting, Words was beautiful, Sir Geoffrey Saved the World was, to say the least, interesting, and, well, Mass was just kinda cool. About the same time, my sister's best friend called me to tell me that a Roy Orbison documentary was coming on.. Well.. Well.. The Bee gees were interviewed about him in in, and i thought they were kinda cool looking, and i remembered the name from the 45's.. and all of a sudden, the documentary went off- and ONO came on... so I watched it and taped it.. and I decided I was definately gonna like those guys after Robin sang.. "Cause love to me is life... and I live you.... and after watching the way Maurice acted during Islands in the Stream, and the way Barry always holds his hand up during the songs.... Next thing I did was buy muself a copy of Still Waters (the first thing I ever did that my parents did not want me to do... ) and then I watched Sgt. Pepper, and, well... hooked... okay.. that's enough.. have a nice day! --- Narissa Rahaman wrote: > Okay, so I know it isn't, well, the greatest > subject...but it was better > than some others i've had.
