Then again, that could have been Geoff or both of them. Don't think the rock-n-roll life suited them, anymore than it suited former members of Fleetwood Mac who also went into a religious retreat. Or Yusef Islam (Cat Stevens) for that matter. Peace, Frank << After an afternoon of listening and reading liner notes, I am wondering who played what!? "Trafalgar" had Geoff Bridgeford who also played "We Lost The Road" from "To Whom It May Concern" and the single "My World". But the remaining "TWIMC" songs drummer is Clem Cattin. What happened to him? Did he follow onto another group? The next year was famed studio drummer was Jim Keltner (who also played on many Harry Nillson albums). Alan Kendall is the long runner here. Dennis Bryon lasted through the helium years. What happened to Mr. Cattin? >> ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1999 10:05:43 -0400 From: "C.A. I think Robbie Williams I Started A Joke. Just > wanna know what you all think. Agreed. That one is awful. I would also like to nominate: Massachusetts, by Space To Love Somebody, by the Lightning Seeds All three of these songs are on the tribute album, Gotta Get A Message To You. If you don't have this, buy it anyway, because there is some excellent stuff on it to counterbalance the bad ones. -- :-) Pat Wong --------------------------------------------------------- "Drugs? This is designed for people to make comments about the album, thoughts, etc. Anyway, here goes.... 1. Odessa (City On The Black Sea) - perhaps the longest ever Bee Gees song, on a official album, at 7:33. The haunting harmonies at the start of the song set the mood for the rest of the album. The sea winds blow before we hear the ship Veronica was lost without a sign. The song changes shape when it goes into the "Cherub..." with Robin singing beautifully. The song builds up with "I won't melt away, and I see your face again" before the climax of "Oooo....dd.....eeee....ssss.aaaaa". A great album intro song. 2. You'll Never See My Face Again - 4:16 - A countyish sounding song that i actually quite like. What were they thinking when they said "It makes me laugh, You've got no friends". 3. Black Diamond - 3:27 - I just love Robin's voice on this (i love robin's voice on anything). This song has a great buildup to the chorus. 4. Marley Purt Drive - 4:26 - This song is so addictive. I can't get the line "I've got 15 kids, and a family on the skids, i got to go for a sunday drive" out of my head. It is probalbly the most country song of the album with Maurice being distinctly heard at certain points. The guitar in the bridge is nice. The mention of a 'convertible 59' is interesting. Doesn't Barry now own a 59' convertible or did he give that away to charity? 5. Edison - 3:07 - Starting with the high harmonies this song leads into another nice ballad. Robin's voice of course makes this a favourite. This song could be used for a physics investigation at school. Maybe thats going too far. 6. Melody Fair - 3:48 - Timeless classic. Songwriting at it's best. Typical Bee Gees brilliant ballad (B.G.B.B.). Took me years to realise "Melody Fair" was actually a woman's name. I feel very dumb. 7. Suddenly - 2:29 - Starting with just guitar on the Right channel, this song sounds like the brothers were having a lot of fun and did it in one take. Maurice's vocals were excellent. I just loved the "oh Yeah" from him before the "How can you tell humans are real" line. Could have laid off the "ahhhhh" at the end. 8. Whisper Whisper - 3:24 - A carnival atmosphere seems to be the feeling associated with this song. That is, before they decide to stop the song and quicken the tempo, with trumpets, trombones, and the like. A very weird song. When the song changes the drummer goes very weird, but good. 9. Lamplight - 4:47 - ths song that started the breakup. Not as good as "First Of May" in my opinion, but a good song none the less. I love the chorus. Any french speaking people able to translate that opening line? 10. Sound Of Love - 3:27 - a lovely sounding song 11. Give Your Best - 3:26 - Starting with Robin and friends doing some square dancing makes for a weird, but good song. This song sounds like it was recorded in a barn, in one take. It's very honky tonk-ish amd sounds like they were all having fun. Anyone know who is laughing hysterically in the bridge? 12. Seven Seas Symphony - 4:09 - This song is very un-Bee Gees. It is an orchestral masterpiece however. It could easily be the song of "Titanic 2". I wish the Bee Gees had written more songs like this. It's great to listen to. 13. I Laugh In Your Face - 4:09 - Starts very slow and sad before building to the chorus. Another good song. 14. Never Say Never Again - 3:28 - A very up-tempo song. What is the line "declaring war on Spain" about? 15. First Of May - 2:48 - Another timeless classic. This is my favourite song of the album 16. The British Opera - 3:17 - Another un-Bee Gees orchestral piece like "Seven Seas Symphony", A Very good finish to the album. Overall, I gave it 9 out of 10. A classic Bee Gees work of many experimental ideas combined with classic ballads. I recommend it to anyone. Order through Marty's Main Course (just giving a great site, a plug) Hope you enjoyed the review. Any views, opinions, ideas, thoughts, etc about Odessa would be welcomly suggested. Aaron Haines P.S.
