They both did a good job, but I agree, Zania did a better job on the song.

I always thought it odd that Barry didn't hire female backup singers, but
instead insisted on filling up "Emotion's" vocal tracks with his own male
falsetto harmonies.
Has he ever explained that in any interviews? Has anyone else?
On Barbra's "Woman in Love," the backup vocals were predominantly female.
Was it the female-centered lyrics that prompted that decision? Or did
Barbra put her foot down?
It just seems odd that Barry Gibb the Record Producer always seems to end
up being Barry Gibb the Backup Singers as well.

David Garcia, who isn't complaining, mind you... just puzzled in NYC

Barry's voice was a hot commodity in the 70s and 80s. THE voice in pop
music. Now, I feel people look back and think it might have been too
omnipresent, but at the time *everybody* wanted that sound on their
records. Karl and Albhy have often said they were hit from all sides by
constant requests to have Barry write, produce, and sing on records by
other artists. I'm curious who they ended up turning down, honestly.
My guess is that the feminist theme of 'Woman in Love' probably informed
them using Maynelli, McCall, and Matthews vs. his voice, although Barry
could have easily modified and multi-tracked his to create whatever kind of
chorus he wanted. All speculation, mind you. There may have been some
caution to make that first single not sound anything like the Bee Gees
given the North American backlash at the time, but then they got away with
it quite successfully on the next two singles. *shrug*

I donât imagine you can compare a Barbra Streisand product to an essentially unknown Australian singer product. Barbra probably had something to say about it.
