Bee Gees Barry Gibb Returns With Solo Album! https://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20160627/383701?max00 https://youtu.be/X5cahSjSQDw The hair may be graying and the gold chains are missing but there's no mistaking that face. There are legendary music artists and then there are Legends. With a capital L. Without question, one of the latter is Legendary singer/songwriter/producer Barry Gibb. The surviving member of one of music's most successful and revered bands, the Bee Gees - formed with his brothers Robin and Maurice - has signed with Columbia Records and will release his first album with the label, In The Now, in the fall of 2016. Gibb has kept the album a family affair, writing all the songs with his sons Stephen and Ashley. Produced by Gibb and co-producer John Merchant, the album is only the second solo effort of his career and his first album of all-new material since the Bee Gees final studio album in 2001. The 12-song album was recorded in Miami with the same gathering of accomplished musicians Gibb assembled for his acclaimed 2014 solo tour. As a record producer/songwriter, Gibb has helped create milestones for other artists, ranging from Barbra Streisand's 1980 Guilty album to the 1983 Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers smash duet "Islands In The Stream," among others. "This is a dream come true for me. It's a new chapter in my life. I always hoped one day that The Bee Gees would be with Columbia or indeed Sony so, it's a great joy for me to start again this way with such great people," says Gibb. Beginning with 1971's "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," the Bee Gees earned nine #1 U.S. singles. The phenomenal statistics only start there. They achieved 15 Top 10 singles and 24 that reached the Top 20. During their 1975 - 1979 peak, which including the mega-selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the group had eight of those #1 chart hits including such "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever." Watch Gibb perform "Stayin' Alive" with Coldplay at the Glastonbury festival on June 26, 2016. Adds Gibb: "I will never forget my brothers, they will always be a part of everything I do. Our dream came true." The Bee Gees earned numerous Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Gibb, 69 years old, returned to live performing in 2013-2014 with the Mythology Tour, celebrating the Bee Gees anthology release of the same name as a tribute to his three brothers. The tour included shows in Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, and the U.S. No word as of yet regarding a possible tour to support In The Now. Back to top

Bare with me, but I thought it was a neat coincidence. I very recently discovered several "retro TV" stations on my cable television. One station is Get TV and I happen to catch Judy Garland's variety show from January 1964 with a very young Barbra Streisand as her guest. I think this may have actually been a After a wonderful segment with Simon & Garfunkel singing "Mrs. Robinson and "Old Friends" and then Andy Williams joining them for "Scarborough Fair", Cass Elliot comes on (she had apparently just left the Mommas & Poppas) and she and Andy do a "dueling du Andy Williams did a nice rendition of "Words". Did he ever record it? One last thing. The musical arranger for Andy Williams show: Jimmie Haskell. Haskell would of course, work with the Bee Gees as the arranger on the unreleased Kick album in 1972. But, back to the "now" and looking forward to Barry's new album. To be honest, I think Robin's emotions were all over the place when he did 50SCD, which are reflected in the lyrics. As far as Sydney goes, yes he was definitely reflecting, but it wasn't a new concept for him. I think Sydney could have been written anyti Kitt- Sent from My World > On Jun 28, 2016, at 10:39 PM, Salvatore Compoccia via Words wrote: > > There is also Robin's "All We Have Is Now" from 50 St. Catherine's Drive. They run reruns of Carson, but have yet to see the Bee Gees. The shows are never in order. Commercially Columbia will have wanted a contemporary album with more than a nod to the Bee Gees sound. I very much hope that is Barry has delivered. You know my views on Barry's tenor voice. I very much hope the studio has 'repaired' it sensitively. I hope that Steven and Ashley have given to their father what was missing on Now Voyager and Hawks Julian Back to top

Barry has always, for the most part written with others. He likes input. I hope his sons keep a detailed account of their exact lyrics and music they contribute. After all, we wouldn't want the Herculean task of deconstructing each chord and lyric as has Kitt- Sent from My World > On Jun 29, 2016, at 8:40 AM, Salvatore Compoccia via Words wrote: > > I don't mean to sound unkind, but has there been any clear indication, or even any kind of indirect showing, that Steve or Ashley really bring anything to the table in terms of songwriting? But... now I feel sorry for the Bee Gees. Well, now Barry and his brothers' estates. But still... I read this article: https://bandzoogle.com/blog/record-sales-where-does-the-money-go Which tells bad news that is even worse than my bad news. So I will ignore it (read it yourselves if you like) and talk about my bad news. I assumed that they get one dollar per album, since they are both artists and composers. For the sake of mathematical simplicity, I also made the absurd assumption that they get one dollar per "single" (track scanned). They don't even come close to that, but math is hard. So let's pretend they do. 10.3 million albums, plus 6.5 million tracks scanned adds up to 16.8 million in all. Again, my ridiculous assumptions mean a total of $16.8 million. From 1991 to 2016 is 25 years. calculator says: $672,000 per year for the group. But three in the group. Split equally, album sales income of $224,000 per Gibb annual income. An hourly wage of $112, or the equivalent of a dozen fast food workers. But they all have lots of property taxes to pay, with those fancy houses. And vehicle maintenance. And since touring hasn't been a priority during the years since 1991, this has been their main source of income, aside from radio airplay and use of their songs in film and tv. Of course, the fever album and dvd sales help out to. But still... wow. But the cover songs still help too, I suppose. And I still hear "Islands in the Stream" played now and then, so there is that... .
