"I've Been Hurt", which I believe came first, is closer to the emotional angst Robin meant to convey in the song, but "Loud and Clear" is so nice to listen to. Any thoughts? The melodies are melancholy, although L&C has a tad more uptempo than IBH. Frankly speaking, many of Robin's songs during this period reflect how he was feeling. I interpret both songs as a message to all whom Robin feels have hurt him, primarily Stigwood, Barry, and Hugh. IBH: "First of all you made me small. Last not least my job went east". People had a nice go at Rob in the press. His family pretty much outed his drug use when he left. They alluded his cancellation of shows meant he was having a nervous breakdown. Not to mention Ms. Molly wasn't spared their wrath. Right or wrong, I'm sure "I've been hurt been mislead". By whom? "Send me a sign don't leave me alone". I don't think Robin ever wanted to leave his brothers, but he wasn't happy there at the moment--so he left. To Robin, he left the Bee Gees, not his brothers. I think Mo felt the same as Robin as Mo held no ill will towards his twin. Barry felt Robin not o "Please don't share my name in vain". Stop talking about me in the press. I'm aware the breakup has been spoken about but the events go hand in hand with much, or some of Robin's music. This is my interpretation. I heard Mister Softee ("That's MISTER Softee to you, pal!") a block away this morning. The NY Times obit had the lyrics, if I remember right. Sadly, ad jingles are a thing of the past for the most part. Ads just have popular music instead. Although for the artist, that can work out well. TWA had used Jimmy Webb's "Up Up and Away" in its ads for a few years, then stopped. But Jimmy still got paid, even after they stopped playing his song, in order to keep other advertisers from using it. Something tells me, if it ever came to that, Robin could have done well writing jingles. The "Cold and Windy Day" Coca-Cola theme was just starting him on the path. Maybe he could have teamed up with Barry... Manilow. He wrote"Just like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!" Among other jingles. They could have turned "How Old Are You?" into a hair coloring ad... . David Garcia, who thinks Taco Bell might have a place for "Saved By the Bell" after all in NYC .
