Subject: =5Bwords] Rif: Barry Gibb " A Home Truth Song "

This is all just my opinion. I would be interested to hear others as well.

First I have to say that I was impressed with the concert. Thank you to the one that posted the YouTube link so I could watch it. I really only watched Barry’s part of the concert. (other than watching Gloria Estefan name every Spanish country in e

I was impressed as I thought that Barry would sing one or two songs. I had no idea that he would almost do a complete concert. Very nice. Steve on guitar was great, and I actually saw Samantha smile on stage. That was a nice change.
Falsetto’s have really taken a beating over the years, and relies a lot more on the background singers, but great to hear =E2the old songs”.

The new song, “The Home Truth Song”

I REALLY do not get the title, but whatever. It is new music. I do hear as some have said influences by Springsteen etc. I did not care for the song that much at first as it “does not sound like a Bee Gees type song”. I guess when I hear a “Gib

That all being said, four or five hours after watching the concert, I noticed that I was singing the song ‘in my head’. So it is catchy and I can’t wait for the new album, (which I KNEW would happen!) to drop.

The song lyrics…
Are they just lyrics, or are they Barry reaching out?

>Verse 1:
>I ain’t the poster boy you made me
>You won’t ever chain me down
>I’ve been to heaven and I’ve been to hell
>And I’ve been livin’ underground
>You want me to be the man
>You know I never wanna be
>Everybody changes with the wind
>Set my spirit free

Barry says that there was so much in fighting and unhappiness in the group. Good times, but a lot of bad times. All that pressure to please others (in the group, and out) now is gone. He was shoe horned into a role for so many years, now his spir

>Pre-Chorus 1:
>Let me tell me where I should not go
Interesting line… “Let ME, tell me” =E2
>Off together in a one-man show

Last year’s concert…  ???

>I need somebody to hold me
>When the night is long
>Chorus 1:
>I am the man who does it all or nothing

For many years he did not do anything. But once he is committed to something, he goes all the way with it?
I would not include comments about specific projects the he said he was going to do that we know never seem to happen. I would not say that those projects made it to the point that could be considered =E2committed to”, more like things that I wou

>I am the one who will not fade away
>I am the man who puts his hand in the fire
>Bein’ forever young
>Back where I belong
>Singing a home truth song
>Singing a home truth song

I just do not know what a ‘home truth song is’. Sounds like a weird title for a song.

>With the weight of the world on my shoulders
>Always been that way
>This runaway train keeps on rollin’
>Someone gotta pay
>I take what my God has given me
>I can’t tell you why
>There must be a reason for

Sounds like it very well could be Barry’s personal =E2journal’. I would not worry about the line about =E2Sometimes I’d rather die’, I think we all have had those same thoughts.

>Pre-Chorus 2:
>With a storm on the ocean at the river’s end
>I won’t be lonely, it’s my only friend
>I need somebody to hold me

Sounds like hs is talking about life, about a career. In the end, it’s what he’s got, it’s all he knows. And that he really needs, values his family.

I really think it is freeking awesome that he has his son Steven on stage with him playing. (and Samantha) But more so Stephen because it’s his son. That must make Barry really proud.

Point I noted, Barry’s getting old. He seemed a bit exhausted a number of times in the concert. In the end, great concert. I’m glad the link was posted so we could all see it.
