That album sure produced a lot of singles. I was stunned when "ESP" was =
ignored. It was one of the few hard-edged song the Bee Gees had written =
in, well, ever! The drums were all electronic and Scott Glasel told me =
how he did a few drum transitions. I was in Middle Ear Studio, hosted =
by Scott - he was great! Brian Tench was aloof. So Scott leaves me in =
the mixing room listening to the original long version of "ESP" and when =
it segued into "You Win Again" he came rushing into the room and turned =
it off. He couldn't let me hear it. Very tight in there! And of =
course the ONLY picture that didn't come out was the ONLY one of me at =
the mixing board. I was upset - a bit.
By the way, I found "Angela" as a 3" CD single. To this day I cannot =
believe "Crazy For Your Love" was a single. Too experimental. And =
"Backtafunk?"

Me, too,. But, not so much surprises as disappointed. They and the single d=
eserved better in the U.S.

which=20
was a good song but which didn't have the feeling of being a huge hit writt=
en=20
all over it. Or even a modest sized hit. "The Longest Night" would've been=
=20
another good choice for a single though both "Angela" and "The Longest Nigh=
t"=20
would've been playing to the Bee Gees's strength as writers of good ballads=
, and=20
maybe they or Warners didn't want to go with the ballads, at least in the U=
S. =20
But, a return to what they had always done pretty well with in the past mig=

have gotten them back on the charts.

I find Angela too slow and a little boring. As far as the ballads on ESP, L=
ive or Die has more energy and The Longest Night is just better I feel. Als=
o, I could see them going with ESP as the second single. It was a good sing=
le for 1987, although I find the track and the album itself somewhat dated =
now.

Too noisy and overdone. It's sort of catchy, but a lightweight song. A reco=
rd company decision?
>And "Backtafunk?"
Not really a favorite of mine, but it's the most genuine R&B song on the al=
bum. Sounds like something Arif and the brothers would have done in the 70'=
s. Only one of two tracks on the entire album to feature real drums.

Doesn't Mo make a comment about 'You win again' in the new DVD saying "it =
wasn't released here" when it fact it was the second single released after =
ESP in the states=20
=20
indeed wasn't it re- released a year or so later in the states as they hadn=

=20
too bad its a great song although not one that comes off well live i think

Hi, I don't know if Warner's actually rereleased the single in the US,
but the US versions of the album One had YWA tacked on to the end
instead of A Wing and a Prayer. And again the US market ignored the
song. You can only figure it was a backlash thing given how big a hit
it was everywhere else.
You don't think it was a good song live? I think the stomps give it a
real energy on stage. In fact, YWA sung live was the song that first
twigged me, years ago, to the fact that the Bee Gees and I might be more
than casual fan and artist :). I was in England and the TV was in the
background. YWA came on and I suddenly raised my head and kinda went,
"what is that!" I never forgot the experience although I forgot the
song name. When I saw it on the One album, I recognized it and bought
the album, probably in the mid 90's. So, that song live has a special
place in my heart, lol! I really like the version on the OFA tour, when
it closed the regular concert, if I remember correctly (they came out to
do Dancing as their encore). Right at the end, the camera is on Robin
and right on the last note, he puts his arms out to his side and puts
them down quickly for emphasis, the song ends and the lights go out.
Very dramatic. Yasmine

It was released in the U.S. I'm really surprised it's even a question here.
It reached #75 on U.S. Billboard.
