I know 'My Destiny' wasn't on 'Size', but what I was implying is what Sal said about the fact that it should've been without question. To have a song like that as B-Side is a complete waste...'Rings Around The Moon' & 'Love Never Dies' also come to mind. But I guess not every track will make an album...although some choices/omissions seem a little 'odd'. Also I agree 'Kiss Of Life' should've been released as opposed to 'How To Fall In Love', I believe that would've done much better in the charts here in England. (almost no Bee Gees content) To Mary and all... Howdy! Yes, we're all okay, although it was a pretty strange day for my family. On Wednesday afternoon, my daughter, just starting high school, wanted to go to a rock concert in Manhattan. Via the Staten Island Ferry. By herself. She usually goes with me, and I make sure she gets there and back okay. But, she persuaded us. So, this time, she goes... alone... to the Interpol concert (at the Manhattan Center, for those of you who remember "Live By Request" on A&E), and takes the bus, straight from school, to the ferry terminal to catch the 3:30 ferry to Manhattan. Around 4:40, I'm flipping channels on the TV, and we hear that about a dozen people have just been killed in a ferry accident that happened an hour ago. No further details available. My daughter promised to stop by her mom's office, which is right near the Manhattan Center. So, I call my wife and ask her, has our kid shown up yet? Because there's been a ferry crash, people have been killed, and... Long pause. No, she hasn't shown up yet. So, I'm going back to the TV, desperately trying to get more details, and my wife is at the office, waiting for our kid to arrive. Again, our little girl's first solo trip to Manhattan... Here's my daughter's telling of the tale, from her weblog... ------- Thursday, October 16, 2003 You know its not a good sign when you're standing in the St. George Ferry Terminal and three police officers come pushing through the crowd, practically clawing at the terminal doors, shouting "Open this door! Open this door!" Eep. As I mentioned in the other post, I was going to go to an Interpol concert yesterday so I had gone straight from the school to the ferry and was waiting in the terminal for the 3:30 boat. But, of all days, this happens to be the day when the captain of what was to be the 3:30 boat decides to pass out and crash the Staten Island ferry into a pier. "You can hang around if you want but its looking like the Staten Island ferry will be closed for the rest of the day." Ouch. But they decided to run one last boat before shutting down the ferry for the night and I got on that one. So, I made it to the show on time and got to stand all the way up front, right in front of Carlos D! :) The opening bands were such hippies... ------ Honestly, she's a much better storyteller than I am. Anyway, she shows up at her mother's office around 5:20, we're all TREMENDOUSLY relieved, and mother and daughter take a taxi home after the concert. And I stayed up until 2:00 AM reading about the ferry crash on the internet. Kind of hard to get to sleep that night... Yeah, I should have let you guys know a bit sooner, I suppose. I contacted my dad by phone, my brother by email, and tried to speak passable Japanese to my sister-in-law, who called while my wife (a native of Japan, for those of you who didn't know that) was still at the office. "Mina-san daijobu." My wife also emailed her later. So, there you have it. My wife rode the last subway train to pass under the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11th. And my daughter rode the last ferry to leave Staten Island on the day of the tragic crash. Both times, I stayed home. Go figure. Nominal Bee Gees content: At one point on the "This Is Where I Came In" interview, Robin looks up and the sun reflects on his glasses. I recently noticed that, at that precise moment, he looks EXACTLY like Professor Farnsworth in the "Futurama" cartoon series. No, really! I have to screenshot that image and post it on a website somewhere. It's amazing... David Garcia, who likes riding the ferry but doesn't like to tread water in Staten Island, NY garcia10303@yahoo.com P.S. Thanks for caring. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? (almost no Bee Gees content) Great news, David! Someone is definitely watching over your family and taking care of them. I think if I was living on Staten Island, I would think about investing in a good scuba outfit with roller-blades attached, so I could get to Manhattan under my own steam. What do you think of that idea? :-) Mary Pridham, Adelaide, South Oz ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Garcia" To: "words List Member" Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2003 10:59 AM Subject: Well, if you're in the mood for long stories...
