Whereas, as you would expect, the male fans on this list would probably only like or dislike the voice, the instrumental ability, arrangements of songs etc. I presume that is the reason that when someone criticizes one of the brothers (the latest being Mo), the women jump to his defense, while most of the men don't. I assume that it was not the sort of thing that was done in live concerts in the 70's?? To be honest the sound during the 79 tour (The one on the video footage) is fantastic. Stayin alive and night fever are almost identical to the recorded version. You would think that after so many tracks being laid down on the original records the concerts would sound a lot different......but in this case it was still bang on!! I don't think anyone, ever, tells them who should sing on each song. Looking for Maurice on "First": check "I close my eyes". I have wondered about that one. It's certainly more than one voice, but Maurice does that. Joe Brennan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Oct 2002 16:19:29 +0300 From: saruhan.dogan@abank.com.tr (saruhan dogan) Subject: Spirits recordings I am one of the fans of "great productions of Barry-Karlbhy", a big one actually. I believe that centuries later, the music of the BeeGees will be listened to by people, and be classified as one of the best pieces of composition in the era called "popular music", while many artists, far more popular than the brothers today, will be totally forgotten. This, I have no doubt. But I have to say that if there is one album from the brothers to make it in the collection of "golden albums of 20th century", it is Spirits, for the songs and for the quality of the production. Finest musicians of the period with the finest of production. According to Joe Brennan, most of the songs have multi-layered voices of Barry, with Robin and Maurice hardly heard. The point is that Barry uses his voice in the exact same approach of the three singing in harmony vocals, and the result is brilliant. Even Barry himself says the falsetto is "too much", but to me this is the best pop album ever. Does that mean I am a Barry fan only? Yes, he's my favorite BG, but I think that voices and lead roles are secondary issues, the by-far most important point is the songwriting, and all three of them write. If you write the music, I dont think it is important whether you play the bass or the 4th guitar or do the programming, or even you sing the song. And Maurice is a writer. More will come on songwriting issue. "I think that Maurice does a good job in holding Barry and Robin together." wrote a friend in the list. I agree, this also is a crucial role to play in a team of outstanding individuals. I am new to the list. Chris, if it goes, thank you, if it does not, can you please paste it there? Chris and Ronnie, if my own feeble attempt doesn't take this time either, would one of you please change the format for me when you have time? Thank you! First of all, let me express a word of appreciation to Chris for helping to restore my waning faith in humanity. Chris will understand. Thanks go too to Doug for that heartfelt welcome back extended to "Mrs. Fini." I could only DREAM of being Mrs. Fini, Doug! However, I'm trying to persuade my significant other that polygamy is A Good Thing, so just grab your suspenders and hold on. Things could change any day now... Thank you, Doug, as well for the timely tip about having thick skin. My work for the chairman of the largest privately-held media company in the world has certainly helped me on that score. I deal on a daily basis with The Great, The Near Great, and The Out-and-Out Horse's Patoots, and I try to be just as charming with one category as with the other. My career has taught me how to "be nice" (DISCLAIMER: This is NOT an oblique reference to sexual favors) to some of the biggest egomaniacs you could possibly imagine. (I'm sorry if this sounds like bragging. If it does, comfort yourself in knowing that I'm just a Professional Flunkie To The Stars.) Mark, as for your question about what constitutes a "dramatic staircase," I would hazard a guess that any staircase which has been rolled down by one or more celebrities may be deemed "dramatic." Brian, as for your conjecture about who will be relegated to using the half-bathroom in Mo's new digs, I must disagree about it being "half-ass fans who come over and need to use the bathroom." I think you'd probably find that fans who chase Mo via land, sea and air (a hot air balloon next?) onto his home turf are probably wearing Depends.... By the way, to help Chris I suggest one hour of listening to Give your best instead of Barney's song. It is much more elaborated, but more beautiful too. I admit to being biased toward the Spirits tour since I was fortunate enough to attend one of the shows. They had backup singers so I'm guessing everything was live. I, too, would love to see a Spirits concert video released but I wonder if there is enough footage out there good enough to be deemed an official release. I'm no expert and I'm sure there is much that I haven't seen but what I have seen on video has been rather rough.
