Vocal symphonies. Never mind if they are all Barry or > some Robin and Maurice, just how many total different vocal parts are > blended there in the last 30 or so seconds of the song? Classic. Ever since Albhy Galuten told me 'Too Much Heaven' has 27 vocal tracks, some of which are have three voices on them, I stopped trying to guess! However well it is done, I have come to question whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. My musical taste has changed over time. Linda, posing the age old question: > Why ? To which I respond with the age old reply: Why not? I'm still a big fan of the work done, primarily by Barry, Karl, and Albhy, in the mid-to-late 1970s. The variety of vocals that Barry put on their work during that time was a key to the "Bee Gees sound". Other than Phil Spector and Brian Wilson, in the primes of their respective careers, I don't think anyone else has come close to the sound they produced. Primarily, Barry's vocals, but also the backing tracks. "Spirits" was a masterpiece, in that regard. Instead of singing along the next time you have it in the changer, pay attention to all the little things that are going on in most of the songs. With the exception of "Until", there's hardly a second that something interesting isn't going on. One little musical passage starts to wind down and another one is revving up. Very symphonic . . . not in a classical sense, but more in the interaction between the various passages. A combination of Barry's voice(s) and the variety of musical tidbits weaving in and out of any particular song that seems to be missing from their most recent self-produced effort (TIWICI). I got a phone call a little while ago from my Internet Service Provider telling me they had been contacted in a letter by the Recording Industry Association of America (www.riaa.com) about my FTP sit= e -- that there was some copyrighted material being exchanged. The Far Eas= t Tour was sited as the material in question . . . I thought that was a bootleg? Anyway, I am NOT being prosecuted or anything, but I did agree (without any prodding!!) to stop my server from allowing Anonymous users (that's all youse guys!) from accessing the site :-((=0D =0D I could set up a User account everybody could use to continue to download that would require a password, but I've thought about it for awhile and f= or the time being I think I'd rather not. There has been so much misuse of = the DAP program and other Download programs like it in the last two months th= at I have had to block over a dozen IP's from the site. I've sent messages here to the List about contacting me so I can help people set their DAP configuration properly and the people who are causing the problem don't bother to contact me; their Download programs just keep hammering away at= my server. I have also been contacted by people who are friends of friends = of people on the List, so I know we are not a small select few anymore and t= hat is probably why my notices to the List go unnoticed ;-) The culprits probably don't even know about our List!=0D =0D Anyway, the bottom line is that I sure don't want to get into any trouble= , so I guess that is that! It was a good thing while it lasted and I hope lots of you got lots of files and will enjoy them for a long time to come :-)=0D =0D Take care!=0D =0D Pat (BeeGeesFool@hotmail.com) --------------Boundary-00=_LT47WCW0000000000000-- --------------Boundary-00=_LT4712S0000000000000-- ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [10/18/2002 18:01] ----------------------------------------------------
