I was hoping you might have a suggestion or two. Perhaps the two of us could start a topic on relatively obscure Texas country artists and/or garage bands and try to find the degrees of separation from Gibb-dom? You could throw out Rusty Weir. I'd counter with Sam Neely or the Zakary Thaks. I suspect at some point we'd work in Roky Erricson and/or the 13th Floor Elevators, Doug Sahm, Freddy Fender, Sunny & the Sunliners, the Five Americans, Jon & Robin, the Nightcaps, Kelly Willis, Bruce & Charlie Robison, Monte Warden, the original Dixie Chicks, etc. At some point, Julie could throw in 53 Seconds (time is slowly winding down ). We could go from there, I suppose. He was rivalled only by Elvis as number 1 teenage idol over here in Britain. His first single, 'Move It' was released in 1958 when he was 17 and he's still going - 62 today. Although he never wrote any of his own songs, except one or two with Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch from his former backing group, the Shadows, he's done, in my opinion, some good songs and managed to move with the times. A boxed set of 6 CD's, with all his singles has been released recently. I think 'Devil Woman' was his breakthrough in America, sometime in the mid to late 70's. I think 'Lucky Lips' was a big hit in the Netherlands and maybe some other European countries Maggie (showing her age again) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 20:04:55 +0200 (CEST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Ronnie=20Olsson?= Subject: Re: Video of Secret Love --- Robins Rose skrev: > Do the words "Fat Chance" mean anything? Unless they (or Robin) actually chart with their next single they will most likely only play it for a month, at best, and then let it slowly but surely slip into oblivion. They will undoubtedly play it every six month or so when they have a half-hour of Bee Gees Greatest Hits. Songs they will play are of course: 1. New single 2. You win again 3. How deep is your love 4 This is where I came in ...and last but not least 5. Stayin' alive (go figure) for the umpteenth time. The CD obviously has a very strong Pop / R&B feel to it, anyone in the UK / Europe who knows the boyband "Blue" will get what I mean... The sound is *very* contemporary, However, the rumoured first single "Please" and the re-make of "Wish You Were Here", with a modern but not so heavy R%B sound, would only fail to dissapoint the fans with the hardest of hearts(!) With all the complaints about the re-working of "Islands In The Stream", I suspect a degree of fans - who only want very "traditional" Bee Gee songs - will not be happy, but in terms of commercial success, Robin has as strong a chance as ever with this CD!!! I just hope the CD promo lives up to the material's potential. Roll on January! Agreed. Since I don't actually belong to any fan clubs (thus enabling me to poke fun at The Continuing Fan Club Wars without fear of reprisals), I have hesitated to post any Robin Gibb solo album jokes at all. I had a bunch of press release parodies ready, some involving Pato Leung, some involving Elmo from Sesame Street, but then I couldn't proceed, fearing that I was likely missing some essential bit of info that others knew which would make my post look too weird to enjoy. So I bailed. > Believe it or not > some artists issue progress reports to their fans > that can be posted > and re-sent willy-nilly in the belief that doing so > will stop rumors > and increase awareness of the coming release. Especially the new bands. My daughter's favorite groups recruit fans for their "street teams" -- street teamers get stickers and unreleased demo cds (!) in advance, to "share and enjoy" with their classmates. All paid for by the record company, of course. One group she's followed for nearly a year now hasn't even released their debut album yet, but have kept her informed with breathless updates. As for me, I get constant emails from bobdylan.com, even though all I did was toss them my email address at the Bob Dylan website. I seem to recall doing the same thing at beegeesonline.com, but it hasn't amounted to much in my inbox, unfortunately... David Garcia, who doesn't mind signing up Pat Wong as an Official David Garcia Impersonator (hint: get bushy grey hair and a big gut, and wear sensible shoes), but if he were performing at Federal Way Washington, most of his jokes would be about Federal Way, Washington in Staten Island, NY garcia10303@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
