Robin writes very catchy melodies, but in my opinion the productions have been the weak point all the time. I think he does very well with the TIWICI songs, but even there it's more or less the same sound (the europop drum beat) you hear in all 3 songs. Like you I have always thought that there is some great songwriting on this album. I've just been listening to my Cliff CDs to celebrate his birthday today. Cliff said earlier this year, (or was it last year?) on a documentary about the Bee Gees that he admired them and, if they were watching, he'd like to do a song with them. I think that would be brilliant. I don't know why he doesn't just ask them. I read somewhere that they originally did 'Words' for him, but Robert Stigwood liked their version so much with Barry singing that he made them keep it. I love Barry singing it, but I think it would have really suited Cliff too. Yes, I too find the levels are set too high. Although I'm not surprised the CD sounded similar to the vinyl. In the beginning of the CD era it wasn't uncommon to use the same master copy for vinyl and CD, despite it being two separate medias. In this case the CD didn't come at the same time as the vinyl but it would probably have been made from either the same master copy or a copy of it. Don't know if this is what it sounds on the original master tapes or if it's due to an error when they made the master copy/copies. Hopefully, if they dug up the original master tapes we'd probably get a better sounding CD. Back to my plea for a remastered re-release of their back catalogue! During their trip they visited numerous sites of special interest including the Jane Crookall where all three brothers were born, various homes and schools - and without exception the visitors all said they would be back in even greater numbers next year. Organiser Andrew Mon-Hughes held talks with Tourism Minister David Cretney while on the island, and plans for a major convention are now being discussed. Among the fans were two first cousins of the brothers Gibb, who have very happy memories of visiting the Gibbs in the seventies: At a farewell dinner last night the fans were treated to a special message from Robin Gibb who gave them a worldwide exclusive, he'd sent samples of some of the tracks he's currently producing for a solo album, to be released early in 2003. http://www.brothersgibb.com Bee Gees News and Information --1014-1107-29-PART-BREAK-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 10:08:21 -0500 From: "Douglas E Wilson" Subject: RE: Robin's New Album Pat, offering her version of CNN Headline News: > Comment - "I don't like Robin's new solo project because" - (insert your > favorite complaint here) > > Reply - "Why not keep an open mind about it?" > > Comment - "You're telling me I'm not entitled to my opinion!!!!" > > Reply - "No we're not. I I actually like this album a lot. I do like the version of Juliet that they do in concert better than the album. The album version to me is sounds to high. But "In and Out of Love", "Kathy's gone" and a few others, (that escape my memory) are some very good songs. With some of us having to remember which info is public and which is secret, it is easier not to talk about it at all. Believe it or not some artists issue progress reports to their fans that can be posted and re-sent willy-nilly in the belief that doing so will stop rumors and increase awareness of the coming release. This is NOT a snipe at any fan club. They get information with these restrictions on it, and it's better they release it with restrictions than not at all.
