There have been some fine song writing on all the albums but most often the songs are disappearing in this synthesizer sound. He's at hes best in songs like Gone With the Wind and Toys (which is a masterpiece - but also very BeeGee-ish). The last 5 years the brothers wrote a lot of song for others which were never released - perhaps the new album will contain some of these. However, I find that hes contribution to TIWICI was very creative and showed a high quality in song writing (unfortunately still the euro-pop sound though), so I am confident that he will release a quality album. I must state though, if Robin's new efforts are anything like Islands in the Stream on The Record, I will certainly dislike them. He is planning to give some older songs of his a new contemporary groove. I am worried about that. Those songs have their proper version, you can always do them differently in concert, but why recycle yourself? Okay, if it will be songs he didn't issue before, I am all for it (Sing Slowly Sister has a bunch of interesting songs). But if he is going to touch standards like Saved by the Bell, I Started A Joke etc. it will send me the shivers. If the new material is going to be in the style of Promise The Earth and Deja Vu, I'd be happy for that. Personally I am most fond of Robin songs like Sincere Relation, When Do I, Black Diamond -- drama, interesting musical backing track, great expression in his voice. The majority of songs on How Old Are You and Walls Have Eyes are also pleasant to listen to, although the former album lacks a bit of quality in the production, due to Maurice rather poor use of only a synthesizer. I will be sure to buy the album of course, yet being a fan of Barry's production standards from 1976 till 1984 I have trouble accepting people like Peter Vettese dominating the sound, even if it's Robin's idea. My appeal to Barry and Maurice is: hurry, it is not too late! You produced together a brilliant album in the shape of Cucumber Castle, with a crystal clear sound and a fantastic musical score. Get out in the field again and do what is fun and beautiful -- something like Loose Talk, or Technicolour Dreams. In the camp of the Beatles, it was always Paul McCartney who was the driving force behind when they'd get in the studio to record a new album, with ready made songs. This urged John Lennon to deliver under pressure his contributions to the album, to not get snowed under. In the case of Sgt. Pepper, he wrote A Day In The Life with the morning paper on his lap, cause he needed some songs quickly. And well, maybe Barry can look finally at some unreleased material then to rerecord songs desperately needing a second chance. Summer Ends, Mango Bay, the excellent The Victim, Moonlight, Born,.The End of My Song, are all fine examples from unreleased songs from only around the time of Robin's Reign that on their own would compile a great solo album, in a new comtemporary jacket. -- Juan "Words & Music", Fans Of The Brothers Gibb http://www.brothersgibb.com To UN Subscribe or change any of your list options, please go to: the website listed above. Band members that have such falling-out's do not continue to make records together year after year, let alone tour, and do promotional appearances. <> I've never said they would have never had a squabble after the first split -- but clearly there has never been one large enough to split the band. I'm sorry if you mis-understood my post, as clearly I have misunderstood yours. I just get tired of seeing posts like "OMG, I hope they aren't splitting up", all the time, as some people try to portray, they would have split continuously over the years, and frankly that has NOT happened. This conversation is over as far as I am concerned. -- Julie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Oct 2002 18:17:40 +0930 From: "Mary Pridham" Subject: Re: Digest (10/05/2002 18:01) (#2002-3104) Hi Kirsten I have been wondering - did you get your love for the Bee Gees from your parents, or did you discover them by yourself?
