True folk music is music that is passed down through the generations and claims no royalties. The 'folk music' of the sixties was inspired by American folk music and singer songwriters on both sides of the Atlantic, such as Donovan, Ralph McTell, Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton etc. etc. were all classed as folk singers, for want of a better description, although one or two songs have since turned into real folk music. For example, how many people who teach children the song 'Going to the Zoo' know that this is a Paxton composition? I'm a fan of folk-pop as well as traditional British folk, and I do think that alot of the very early Bee Gees music had a folk influence. Sometimes you hear it in later Bee Gees recordings, too, such as 'Blue Island' and some of Robin's early solo work.
