(#2007-3385) - Topics this issue: 1) Greatest to be reissued in September, 2) Greatest, 3) Greatest, 4) Greatest-guitar chords for Warm ride???, 5) Greatest, 6) Greatest, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2007 06:04:53 -0700 From: "Yakima Canutt" Subject: Greatest to be reissued in September I for one think this is good news. More Bee Gees product on the shelves...... product that the general public can appreciate. This was the last Bee Gees # 1 album I believe, and it continued to be popular into the early years of the backlash period, probably because of the sheer volume of undeniably good material on it. I love how the first disc is so packed with great hit song after great hit song, without any greatest hits "filler". They saved that for the 2nd disc, or back in the day, side 2 of the cassette. Good news to see them on record shelves for the masses and good news for us with the bonus tracks. How many "new" Bee Gees songs is that in the last 12 months - considereing that many of us had never heard the Rhino bonus tracks before? I am very thankful for Rhino. I hope they make some money off of this project. Re the 30th anniversary edition of SNF, wasn't there a point raised a few months back about Rhino only have rights to the Bee Gees songs, rather than the rest of the soundtrack. So, is this Greatest edition, in lieu of the SNF anniversary edition? After all, Greatest did have all the Bee Gees SNF tracks. And with the emphasis on the Fever tracks (e.g. extended Stayin' Alive) it sounds that it's being promoted in that way. However, I still thing that the public perception will be negative at yet another compilation album. They licensed the soundtrack from Universal and I bet they charged them royally for it. I'd guess come the 35th anniversary Universal will reissue it themselves. :-) > So, is this Greatest edition, in lieu of the SNF anniversary edition? > After all, Greatest did have all the Bee Gees SNF tracks. I agree, I think they will try to effectively garner interest in both releases come the release of the 2-DVD set. > However, I still thing that the public perception will be negative at yet > another compilation album. Unfortunately, there is that aspect of it. The upside is the two of them are classical albums. The downside is that a) SNF is largely already in every mans home or at least those who cared for the movie/music and b) Greatest is one in a line of very recent Bee Gees compilations. If they are able to promote the two with the DVD (either as an insert or a commercial video on it; with Paramounts blessing) they could increase interest in them. /Ronnie -- Jag använder gratisversionen av SPAMfighter för privata användare. 188 spam har blivit blockerade hittills. A reissue of SNF in September, and a reissue of Greatest in October. Both on Rhino. I don't see anything extra listed for SNF. Greatest will now have ALL the tracks from the SNF sessions-- the four that are in the film and soundtrack + "If I Can't Have You" + "Don't Throw It All Away" + "Warm Ride" + the long "Stayin' Alive". So it is a better source of SNF songs than the soundtrack itself. Still missing is "Stayin' Alive" with the different slow section cut into it. The film itself will be reissued on DVD (and other formats?) with the obligatory extras, one of which is footage of Barry and Robin talking about the music. Lastly there is also a documentary by Victory Tischler-Blue which includes new acoustic versions of the songs by Barry and Robin-- however I have yet to see any mention of how that will be marketed. A television special, or straight to DVD? Wonder if it is a separate thing or part of the extras on the SNF DVD set? From what I've seen posted on the net the movie will also be issued on HD-DVD and Blu-R /Ronnie ----- "Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry" -David Bruce Banner ay. -- Jag använder gratisversionen av SPAMfighter för privata användare. 188 spam har blivit blockerade hittills.
