However it is clear now as it was then that if you listen to the first three albums Robin's contribution is as significant as Barry's and I would say that the success they had would not have happened if the balance had been too-one sided. IMO RS was wrong not have to released either And the sun will shine or I started a joke as singles after he'd given Barry Words. Robin would have had no valid argument with First of may, particurly if RS had him promised Lamplight or Odessa as the follow-up. Wasn't this just a Barry and Maurice release? Trivia, trivia! It's just a mistake. It never appeared to me as though it was one sided on the record releases. Robin and Barry seemed to be equally represented on the A-sides, at least in the US. Perhaps Stigwood had other ventures for Barry (such as breaking Barry into acting) and didn't have anything planned for Robin and/or Maurice outside of the group activities. And perhaps Stigwood's plans for Barry working outside of the group was upsetting for Robin and the issue of Barry being favored on the A-sides was simply a way to voice his anger. IMO RS was wrong not have to released either And the sun will shine or I started a joke as singles after he'd given Barry Words. Robin would have had no valid argument with First of may, particurly if RS had him promised Lamplight or Odessa as the follow-up Course, "I Started A Joke" was a single here in the US and had been a big hit at that. I don't think the US market would've been quite so favorable for "And the Sun Will Shine" or "Odessa" as singles. Both songs were just a little too slow and it might have been hard for Atlantic to have gotten Top 40 AM radio to have played a song such as "Odessa," that was seven and a half minutes long. I'm rather surprised "World" wasn't released as a single in the US but it's puzzling as to why Stigwood and Atlantic didn't at least try and push "Lamplight" and "First of May" as a double A-side, much like Capitol had done on several Beatle releases. I love "First of May" but have always thought "Lamplight" was the stronger of the two and the one that should've been given the push. "Melody Fair" would've been a great choice for follow up single in the US and that's another shocker as to why it wasn't.
