He said it was making a droning noise and, after a while, it seemed to take the form of a tune which sounded like a church choir! Still on the subject of that song, I was pleasantly surprised on Friday night, when we took our son out for his birthday dinner. The music playing was mostly modern stuff that I wasn't keen on. Then, suddenly, I realised that 'I started a joke' was playing! Unfortunately, being much quieter than most of the music, I didn't hear it that well, but I was thrilled to hear it being played, as that song is not particularly well known in the U.K. I know there were a couple of cover versions, but, from what I could hear, it sounded like the real thing. A welcome change from 'Staying Alive'! I >think you have solved the Joke meaning puzzle for me!! >Jan T. You must be an easy sale! I seriously doubt the song is about Hitler. The subject of the song clearly has regrets and the lyrics are song ruefully. You think Hitler had any regrets or was sorry for anything he did? For me, the character seems tormented and he sort of comes off as sympathetic. I doubt Robin would have painted such a picture for Hitler. Especially, being such a Churchill and Union Jack Englishman.
