Julian By the way I assumed "Day Time Girl" was Barry for many years. It was only when someone here asked whether it was Maurice that I listened to it again and found myself agreeing. So much for my ears. I found this great site with some new (or old) info on the IBC Studio work the Bee Gees did from 1867-1974. It confirms that "I Gotta Get..." was not released as a single in the UK! Now go and turn up the volume and play Bab's ' All the children' and tell me that's not a great rock track also. I would love to know what Bab's fans thought of that one. Different voices may come to the front on different words or phrases. They did this three-voice thing on some other songs. "Second Hand People" is another. "Please Read Me" has got plenty of Maurice in it though, notably the high harmony in the wordless vocal break. It's possible the vocals are by all three of them together, different voices coming to the front on different words or phrases as you say. I listened to the song last night, just on the surround sound speakers which brought up the vocals considerably and which almost wiped out the musical backing altogether. I'll still swear that it's Maurice I'm hearing but I can't rule out the possibility the three voices are blended together to create one voice. Much of the reason I believe the main lead vocal is by Maurice is the way the song is sung, the phrasing sounds similar to Maurice's vocals on songs such as "Where Are You," "All By Myself" and "Kitty Can" and even on Maurice's vocal performance on the Beatles/Sgt. Pepper tune, "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite." However, that kind of phrasing is also present on another song from "Bee Gees 1st" -- "In My Own Time," which definitely isn't Maurice on that one. We collectively never reached agreement on the first verse of "Day Time Girl". I am swayed by two things: the way the voice drops away on the line "falls to the ground" just like Maurice's line "got ot get it over with" does in "Elisa", and the way the voice goes into harmony as soon as Robin comes in. Neither seems typical of Barry. Besides giving another listen to "Please Read Me" and "Where Are You" last night, I also gave several listens to "Lonely Winter" after notcing something I hadn't really noticed before: on a couple of the lines -- 'why am I alone' and 'til the winter's gone', Maurice's voice sounded a little like Robin's voice. So, he could mimick Robin's singing voice but with regards to singing, Maurice's voice was closer to Barry's and harder to separate sometimes when the two of them were singing together. That was something which really didn't happen between Barry and Robin as much or Robin and Maurice for that matter. I was trying to recall another Bee Gees song on which Barry's vocal is similar to the vocal on the first verse on "Daytime Girl." The best I could think of was maybe the "ah uh" vocal part in "Somebody Stop the Music," but Maurice is part of that, too. Some of Maurice's lead vocal on "My Thing" sound more similar to the first verse vocal on "Daytime Girl," and I don't hear Barry at all on that particular song.
