Still sounds like Barry to me but then I also thought Barry sang the first verse on "Daytime Girl" first time I heard the song. And it's Maurice! Perhaps Maurice's voice was blended in with Barry's on ILIYF? The only other song which features a lead by Barry that sounds somewhat similar is "With the Sun in My Eyes." As for vocals that may be Maurice, I'd still swear that it's Maurice with the lead on "Please Read Me" despite the writing of the song being credited to Barry and Robin. Joe lists Barry as the lead vocalist on PRM on his website but it doesn't sound like him nor does it sound like Robin. There's no other released recordings by Barry in which his lead vocal sounds the same (or almost the same) as the vocal for this song. Peace, Frank Are we sure that's Maurice on the first verse of "Daytime Girl"? Not Barry? The second verse of "Please Read Me" is Robin and the third is Barry. Thr first verse is tough to decipher. My guess, a blend of Robin and Barry, which appears to be a carry-over vocal they utilized from the Australian recordings for certain lead vocals e.g "You Wouldn't Know" Sal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 21:08:57 +0000 From: "Peter Frans" Subject: RE: Um, seriously Dear Frank, To me they're unmistakable Barry leads. Not Barry? First time I heard the song, I thought it was Barry as well but Joe (on his website) says it's Maurice with Robin. On one of the live chats Maurice did a few years ago, he said the song was sung by himself and Barry. That led me to wonder how he could've confused Robin with Barry since it's clearly Robin dominating the vocal from the second verse on. It could be an alternate take of the song may exist with Maurice and Barry singing together but for the version of the song that's on the "Horizontal" album, if Joe says it's Maurice and Robin on vocals, that's what I'll go by even though my ears tell me it's Barry. The second verse of "Please Read Me" is Robin and the third is Barry. Thr first verse is tough to decipher. My guess, a blend of Robin and Barry, which appears to be a carry-over vocal they utilized from the Australian recordings for certain lead vocals e.g "You Wouldn't Know" I considered a blending of the vocals a distinct possibility -- the lead vocals on the song sound like it's been double tracked. There are times when I play the song that I think it is Barry and Robin but more times than not when I play the song and listen to the way the lyrics are phrased while being sung, I think it's Maurice I'm hearing and not Barry and/or Robin. I agree with you on "I Laugh In Your Face" and I'm still up in the air on whether the first verse of "Daytime Girl" is Maurice or Barry. The ending vocal on the song sounds more like Maurice than Barry, so it may be Maurice singing on the first verse. Joe says it's Maurice and Maurice in a chat said he was the vocalist (along with Barry). "Please Read Me," the way the words are being phrased when being sung is one reason which makes me think it's Maurice (or Maurice with Robin) and not Barry. Another reason is the vocal on the tune is sung in a slightly lower baritone that was more within Maurice's or Robin's range than Barry's. Course, I guess it could always be a possibility that studio gimmickry could've lowered Barry's vocal if that is indeed Barry. I heard somewhere that she needs the money which is why she is touring again. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 20:50:03 -0400 From: lagerg@aol.com Subject: Re: Babs Remarks she should have just cancelled that Ellen appearance as one of her closest friends just died. It served no purpose-it certainly did nothing to promote the album. I honestly think Barry did more to promote the album than she did. ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [07/10/2006 21:01] ----------------------------------------------------
