I don't think the Surgeon General's warning on cigarette packages was implemented until the late 60's here in the US, and the original warning was not as strict as the current one. The attitude towards smoking prior to 1970 was obviously very different. And its not just in those old movies. Look at some TV shows from the 50's and 60's. The characters are frequently lighting up, even on the sitcoms. You haven't seen that for years on your typical show. The four leading causes of death in the US (and perhaps most places) are Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke, and Pulmonary illnesses. Smoking is connected to all four. If that's not reason enough to try and quit , or even better, never to start. What is? It would appear Robin was shut out of the project right from the start. That's assuming if it was even one of those two or three songs Robin supposedly wrote for Streisand. Either way, I'm glad he sung it and no one else. It appears to be a very personal song for him, notwithstanding the anti-war overtones. I'll stop there - mustn't upset Doug with my giggling :o) Yes, I remember only too well. Thanks, Richard. Nice to know we have a loyal fan :o) It certainly got plenty of laughs! We may not have sounded quite right, but the thought was there! BTW are my partners in crime still around on this list ? We haven't heard anything for a while. Hope you're both keeping well. To be fair, that was back in 2003 when Robin was appearing as a judge on Fame Academy, and the person probably wasn't a fan, but still...I couldn't help being surprised when I looked at the page and saw that Andy was the judge. Incidentally, Patrick Kielty, one of the presenters, once accidentally called Robin "Barry" on the show. Poor Robin - no one gets his name right! Michelle Michelle ----- Original Message ----- But it looks like Stigwood went a step further and made it look as if they were only two years apart! > > "Words & Music", Fans Of The Brothers Gibb ( Bee Gees ) > http://www.brothersgibb.com > > To change any of your list options, > please go to website listed above. > ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [09/27/2006 21:01] ----------------------------------------------------
