(#2004-55) - Topics this issue: 1) Robin the Rebel., 2) Robin in DC ..., 3) Hello Linda ...., 4) Robin's performance, 5) Robin in DC & Fair WX Fan (Literally), ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2004 10:43:41 -0400 From: Edward Vlasov Subject: Robin the Rebel. While everybody else was singing songs like "Is the Flag Still There?" and "What About Now?", Robin sent his message by singin' "Jive Talkin'", "How Deep Is Your Love???" and "Stayin' Alive". Having been there in person AND having watched my tape of it at home, I can assure everyone Robin attained the TV Producers' goals .... From the man who had one of the best seats in the house, that being an older member of the choir, who boogied a bit off the beat, to the man with a red, white and blue cap on, in one of the last rows of the Capitol Steps who was strutting ( those who saw the concert may know who I am referring to here ) and of course me and my friends who attended and just about everyone in between .... were enjoying themselves! I can tell you I have been to many concerts in my nearly 30 years, though admittedly this was my first one with a Gibb connection. It was also the first one where I moved and grooved! So I'll say it a little more forcefully. You are jumping to massive conclusions when you assume that Robin picked the songs. With shows like this, the producers typically pick the songs to further whatever feel they want the show in question to have. The producers wouldn't let him perform Lamplight or Black Diamond if he wanted to. OF COURSE PBS would ask him to perform uptempo, Bee Gees classics that everyone knows. That's a no-brainer. This show was not a Robin Gibb concert--it was a Fourth of July celebration produced by PBS in a manner designed to appeal to their specific demographic. Robin would have very little control over any of it. So speculation that he chose Barry songs to make some kind of statement to Barry...I'm sorry Juan, but NO. Festival production doesn't work that way. --- listmember@brothersgibb.com wrote: Date: Wed, 07 Jul 2004 12:26:02 +0200 From: Juan Perea y Monsuwe Subject: Robin's choice of songs Julian Glass remarked: Very much so! I can't follow Robin anymore. First there was the strange remake of Islands in the Stream, then he came up with remakes of songs that are a landmark on their own (Wish You Were Here, Another Lonely Night In New York), after which he delivered an album of very mediocre songs written by some young fellows and now he is singing all of Barry's lead songs.... Why oh why? Robin has a fanatastic reportoire that suits him a lot better. He can do And The Sun Will Shine, I Started a Joke, Massachusetts, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Toys, Lamplight, Black Diamond, Country Lanes, Juliet, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Another Lonely Night in NY and last but not least The Singer Sang His Song. Okay, I can understand he wants something up tempo too, and maybe he feels like the songs he helped to create were cut in a way after all this years he can't support anymore, but it almost looks like he deliberately wants to make a statement to Barry... -- Juan __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
