First rule is use it or lose it. Your voice does change with age. Mine = went from being a Full Soprano to a Mezzo Soprano during my teens. In = later years I found I could sing tenor too if I HAD to! Then I didn't = sing for a while and now that I have to sing mostly every week I find I = am hitting some top notes that I was sure I hadn't sung for a few years! = Mind you I am in my forties so I feel I am having a bit of a bonus = here! Men's voices tend to get really good around their thirties. It = just seems to be a magic age. It takes a fair bit of energy to sing too. Supporting the air is the = trick but if you are out of practice you won't have the strength in your = diaphragm to hold the note. Smoking doesn't help either. It might be = that the wonderful vibrato from the 80's was more due to the consumption = of tobacco. I understand he has given up so that would account for a = voice change too! I understand too that Barry Gibb has arthritis. That would make it = quite difficult. You would be amazed how many joints move in your neck, = back and chest when you sing. That could account for not being as = strong vocally especially if it is painful to take a really deep breath = and control the air. I think if there is a difference (and I don't know if there is or not) = it is more than likely due to not having sung much in the last 18 months = than age. You always have that potential to sing because you have = learnt the technique but to really get the voice going and nail it is a = matter of keeping it in trim and that takes exercise. just my 10 cents worth Chris Lawrance Adelaide ------=_NextPart_000_019F_01C46032.28AD64E0-- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2004 23:58:08 -0400 From: "Robin Rehder" Subject: Robin in DC I know it's a couple days away but I'm excited to hear about Robin's performance and rehearsal although we'll get to watch him on TV for those of us who couldn't go.
