Born in England, Robin Gibb of music's Bee Gees is on the guest roster for the annual celebration that PBS will televise Sunday at 8 p.m. on WNET/13 and 9:30 p.m. on WLIW/21. Barry Bostwick ("Spin City") will be back for his seventh stint as host on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., with Erich Kunzel returning to conduct the National Symphony Orchestra. Other scheduled performers include singer Clay Aiken "You wouldn't have Independence Day without the British," Gibb says, "so I guess it's appropriate to be there. The Revolutionary War and all that has something do with it... . If [the show's writers and producers] don't bring that up, I could. I might jus Gibb is looking forward to reuniting with Aiken at the holiday event, after appearing as a guest judge on "American Idol" last year. "It's very hard doing something like that, in terms of being critical of people's performances," Gibb says. "Especially si "A Capitol Fourth" marks one of the first public performances by Gibb since the death of his twin brother, Maurice, last year. Robin Gibb was trying to persuade surviving sibling and fellow Bee Gee Barry to join him on the show. Both brothers live in Miam "My son R.J. was born in America," Gibb says, "so he's been brought up to be very observant of that day as well. It's a very big event for him." Being backed by a full symphony on "A Capitol Fourth" won't be new for Gibb, "We've always done music with orchestras. That's how we started out." Tunes from "Saturday Night Fever" - one of the top-selling movie soundtracks of all time - may be among Gibb's selections on "A Capitol Fourth," although he also wants to showcase other elements of the wide- ranging Bee Gees catalog. "We'd had so much success before 'Fever,' and we've also written songs for other people. Our careers began in the '60s with things like 'I've Gotta Get a Message to You' and 'To Love Somebody' and 'I Started a Joke.'" Afterward, the Bee Gees frequently reinvented themselves. They left their mark on the mid-1970s with hits like "Jive Talkin'" and "Nights on Broadway." And in the wake of the "Fever" phenomenon, they released such singles as "Tragedy" and "Too Much Heaven "We've always seen ourselves as songwriters, and I think that's why we've had this career," Gibb says. "We've never been afraid to try different kinds of music, as opposed to sticking to just one type. It's always been important to us to experiment. Diffe Raised in Australia, the Bee Gees received a major accolade last month: the Order of the British Empire from their native country's government, commemorating the group's success over 40-plus years in entertainment. "It was a great experience," Robin recalls of receiving the honor from Britain's Prince Charles. "You get kind of a strange feeling from seeing 'O.B.E.' after your name. It's just a pity Maurice couldn't have been there." It was too I don't know what it is that one who's not on the list would know. Sorry but it's just my opinion and if I had your private email, I'da told you on there instead of the group. You may be sorry and that's fine but I don't believe your nephew worte the message. It's not my imagination, either. > I know a STOLE is the word used for part of the bishop's garments, I believe it's the scarf-like item worn around the neck. Wonder if that is what they meant--just to be funny, maybe? We make the necessary plans via phone and email (don't worry, my nephew emailed him privately) and he calls me back minutes later to tell me he just SAW Robin strolling by the corner of Louisiana and Capital streets, possibly on his way to the Mall for rehearsal. For those who want to know: he was wearing a black blazer, black baseball cap and trademark blue glasses. He was with another man with gray hair. Since my friend is not all that Bee Gee knowledgeable, he did not know who the other man was... I'm getting ready to see him live and getting excited. Any more news or confirmation on whether Barry (prime voice or not) will be there? Much as still I love their singing, I don't think it ever got any better than their performance in SIE, but they still sound great.
