Robin does some wordless warbling in the same style on the unreleased "Deeply deeply me" from late 1966-- so you may be onto something! I really like "Sweet song of summer" but not everyone does. There is lots of Maurice in the synth and bass playing too-- that's a bass solo at the end. To my ears it's a Maurice track based on a song fragment by Barry and Robin. Another "hidden Maurice" song-- I would say "Road to Alaska" is one of Maurice's swamp rock things like "On time" or "Country woman", with words and vocal by Robin. You can hear Maurice singing along on parts and that nice "oh yeah" as go into Alan's lead guitar. Actually there are numerous things I really like on this album-- I guess "Paper mache", "Alive", "You know it's for you" lead the list. I cannot believe you could possibly mean that Robin's singing of HDIYL would be a mutilation of the song. What were you thinking. Robin has been "helping" Barry sing these lyrics for some time no Nance --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! These days, a vocalist will sing many performances and one "perfect" performance is comped together later with a computer. Its actually cheaper and easier to record and produce something these days than it was in 1970. Also, it is relatively easy to remove things such as breath noise, some background noise, random nosies (Save your voice!!! etc). Back then, a vocal take usually was the one that ended up on the record - straight through - no comping - so I would imagine Maurice said "Stole" but for some reason they chose to keep it because it sounded cool, they were too tired, they had something else to do - or something like that. I do miss the 70s. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jul 2004 10:37:00 -0700 From: "Bari Powers" Subject: Re: Robin in MD .... Do you know how to change the recipient of a reply? I believe you're missing my point. The point is that Janel and you are carrying on a CONTINUING private conversation in a public list. Show a bit of consideration for the rest of us and change the "To" in your email so that Janel is the recipient (or in Janel's case, Bari is the recipient Doug (who doesn't automatically delete, because there's always the chance that one or the other of you might be posting something that isn't a private message to the other) Bari Powers wrote: Doug, you know where the delete button is? Duh. I've sent posts to people privately on this issue that never seem to show up hence the reason I did what I did through the ML. And its not like I do it all the time .... just when I am having the once in a lifetime chance to see a Gibb. Luckily for you, I don't think you will have to see one of those posts from me again since our plans are pretty much set up. And even if it wasn't ... you are trying to tell me this is the first time in the history of this list that a private conversation has taken place on this list? So I l respectfully ask you two to back off .... that is pretty much all I have to say on the matter.
