At 6 1/2 minutes it's too long. The space on the album could have been substituted with In Heat of the Night and City of Angels, which I heard were two good songs. If I had to guess I would say that this is an example of one of the many compromises that complicated the LE album. It seems as if Barry and Albhy pushed to get this track on the album. It's a Barry solo composition and they kind of repeat what they did o Sal ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Sep 2003 16:12:06 -0400 From: SCompo1993@aol.com Subject: Re: Robin List In a message dated 9/27/2003 12:01:28 AM Eastern Daylight Time, ListMember@brothersgibb.com writes: > Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 23:24:11 +0100 > From: "Julian Glass" > Subject: Re: Digest (09/25/2003 12:01) (#2003-4586) > > Off the top of my head a 20 track Essential Robin Gibb CD > > 1 Saved by the bell > 2 I am the world > 3 Kathy's gone > 4 I started a joke > 5 Gone with the wind > 6 The worst girl in this town > 7 Really and sincerely > 8 He can't love you > 9 Boys do fall in love > 10 Lamplight > 11 I can't see nobody > 12 Black diamond > 13 Secret agent > 14 Juliet > 15 One million years > 16 I don't think it's funny > 17 Ellan Vannin > 18 Wish you were here > 19 Oh' darling > 20 Odessa I would definitely add Never Been Alone and the recent Islands in the Stream remake. At 6 1/2 minutes it's too long. Too long at 6 1/2 minutes? You wouldn't like my record collection with lots of stuff timing in at 10, 15 and 20+ minutes a song then would you! =8^) > The space on the album could have been substituted with In Heat of the Night and City of Angels, which I heard were two good songs. "In The Heat of The Night" is a good song with one of the best choruses that I've ever heard, but I think they were right to leave it off the "Living Eyes" album - it wasn't in keeping with the feel of the rest of the album. Although "City of Angels" was better suited for the album in terms of general style, it appears to have been abandoned quite early on - I don't think it went beyond scat vocal demo stage. From the demos that were made for this album which were quite close to the finished articles, it would seem that this was going to be another falsetto lead by Barry - maybe they felt that "Soldiers" was enough in that particular style after the overkill of "SHF", "SNF" and "CotW". It's not like analyzing the vocals or even production styles, where the contributions are more apparent. One of the reasons it's so difficult I think is that they did, for the most part, work as a cohes Sal ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [09/30/2003 18:01] ----------------------------------------------------
