Joe Brennan -- >Why? The kit's probably worn out after ten years. Actually, I find it quite curious. I had contacted Steve Rucker about 2 = months ago after he had posted on the alt.music.BeeGees news group that = he was selling this set. This was part of his reply: "You're right about the set -- purple Premiers -- 10, 12, 14, 16 toms, = 14 X 22 kick, various snares. There's a Gibraltar rack system with 5 = cymbal booms. The thing is, I'm looking to sell the kit as a = collectable, far above the retail price, to a BG fan with some = disposable income. Otherwise, I'll just hang on to it -- it's a great = sounding kit.=20 Good luck with your drumming! Best, Steve" Now, I don't exactly have enough disposable income to pay "far above = retail price," but I was certainly still interested and figured there = was room for negotiation. So, I replied back to him asking for details = about the kit (shell composition, types of snares, condition of the = shells and hardware, etc.) and his asking price. I had to be honest, so = I told him that if I bought the kit, I'd actually play it, as I can't = exactly afford to buy a new (or, in this case, a really good set of used = -- side note to Joe: unless they are abused, drums don't wear out!) = drums and enshrine it. Believe me, I would play it with great = reverence, but I would have to play it. Well, when he didn't reply back, I figured that he either sold the kit = to someone who would keep it strictly as a collectors piece or that he = decided to keep it himself. That's why the I find the Ebay thing so = strange. The kit can go to anybody now, regardless of their intended = use. And the starting bid of $1000 is a long way off from being "far = above the retail price." I'm sure he's hoping for much more. I have the = action on my watch list.
