Seriously, isn't it nice to see a father so loving toward his children when we hear about child abuse every day of our lives now? Debbie It's strange, but you could say Ali is the Bee Gees Yoko Ono Sal, Sal, Sal - With a remark like that, "Instant Karma!" is gonna get you LOL!! I understand the point you are trying to get across, but that is extreme - Yoko was John's lover and muse and Ali is just a young girl who is adored by her father!! I think we all know how much Barry and Linda wanted a girl, and then with her premature birth and her being the "baby" of the family - well, is it any wonder he spends alot of time with her? It makes me think of the part in Keppel Road where he is walking with Ali and he is worried she is chilled - a very tender moment. And what a lucky girl to have her father love her so much - I know many people who would give anything to have just a little bit of love and affection from their fathers, especially when they are so high profile. He may at times not have wanted to tour because he didn't want to be away from her;but, I doubt that all of the Bee Gees lower output and cancelled tours can be blamed on Ali. Where ever shall I start? I have been a fan since the age of 12 and have maintained some sort of fan club contact for the entire time. Back in 1993 I received a notice from BGQ about a club apperance in Atlanta Georgia. I was trying to figure out how I could possibly pull it off when I opened the rest of my mail and found my Christmas club check. Needless to say it was a lean Christmas that year as I spent all of the money on my airfare to Atlanta & then on to Orlando for the VH1 concert at Universal Studios. Thank God for BGQ and my fanclub passes! In Atlanta, I arrived early with my cousin (who lives just outside of Atlanta) and we proceeded to wait by the backstage door for the guys to finish up their soundcheck. We were absolutely thrilled to get to meet all of the guys and get some quick photos before they were off. We were able to get in as soon as the doors opened and claimed a spot right in front of the stage. The only regret that I have is as I began taking pictures my camera battery died after only 3 pics....sigh...needless to say I have never ever been without a backup battery since. But that freed me up to just enjoy the show which was fantastic. I was floating on air on the ride home. I left Georgia and flew to Florida. As luck would have it, I ran into Alan Kendall at the airport and talked to him for a long time. He was soooooo nice and told me to look him up at Universal. I arrived in Orlando on Sunday afternoon, basically dropped my bags at my hotel and headed for the soundstage. I immediately found the manager of the soundstage where they were taping. I told him that I was looking for Alan Kendall and he took me to the backstage door but then asked me to wait. He found Alan and I got backstage. I was there when Robin arrived, but I was too dumbstruck to speak to him at first. When I did finally work up the nerve, I felt like I was intruding and only spoke to him briefly. I think he was having a bad day because every other time I have spoken to him he has been WONDERFUL! Both Mo & Barry arrived soon after for soundcheck (which turned out to be almost the whole show and interviews). I talked to both of them for a moment and also spoke to Dick Ashby at length. I have to admit that I was so nervous speaking to them that I pretended to be a reporter for a college newspaper doing a story (LOL) While talking to Maurice I asked if there were anyway I could get a photo of all 3 brothers and he then put me on the guest list for that evening. I really lucked into this backstage access as I was able to get in ahead of the crowd and be right in front of Robin!!! Of course, the show was wonderful! During taping there were several instances where they had to stop the taping for some reason. During these breaks the brothers answered questions and joked among themselves. During one such instance the audience was very quiet and Robin suddenly blurted out "Feel free to take off your clothes at anytime!" I was, remember, standing directly in front of him. I don't know what possessed me but I found my voice and responded, "You first!" Of course this was met with catcalls and whistles but boy was my face red! The show was awesome and it is fun to see it every once and awhile on VH1. This was just the beginning of many more Bee Gee adventures to come! Sorry for the REALLY long post! And I can see that your question has already been answered. The only thing that I can add is, I remember being told that Steve hooked up with the Bee Gees through John Merchant who was once a student of his. But not being an expert on the who's when's or why's, I'm not sure if any of this is correct. Matt Bonelli also lectures in music at the University of Miami, so maybe he was the connection. You can read a bit about Steve's studio work at this address: http://www.efmmusco.com/SteveRuckerbio.htm Sorry if you thought I was ignoring your post. I would have loved it if it would have taken me five hours to read it! I LOVE hearing about people meeting the brothers. Wish I could say I have. I could always make up stories about meeting them I suppose, but you'd see right through them, because my imagination would get the better of me and you'd be reading about me going on dangerous treks through the Amazon with them, going with them on missions for MI6, hiking up mountains with them...the possibilities are endless.
