You're right, Sal, but I think pretty much all of good old John's songs are autobiographical and reflect him and his life in some way. In 2000, a special program was aired, called 'The Real John Lennon', with contributions from family members and friends - but none of the other Beatles. It's a great show, and I watch it regularly, but the commentator mentions how "nearly all of John's songs were autobiographical." There's 'In My Life', a very introspective and nostalgic song. 'Strawberry Fields' is referring to the old children's home near his house that his Aunt Mimi used to take him to when it was holding garden parties. 'Mother' expresses the pain he felt about his broken home - his father disappeared when he was five, his mother took up with a new man and, although she still saw him regularly, she died when John was seventeen, and he said once of his mother: "I lost her twice - once when I was five and then again when I was seventeen." He was raised from the age of about four by his Aunt Mimi. I think his songs were a bit of an outlet for his emotions, since I've read he found it difficult to express his emotions - he hardly ever cried, and then only a little when people close to him, i.e. his best friend Stuart Sutcliffe, died. He himself once said that he was "just a terrified guy who didn't know how to cry." By the way, it must be obvious from all this that I'm a huge Beatles/John Lennon fan, mustn't it? Sorry there's nothing Bee Gees related here, guys! I'm not quite sure what you mean, Sal, by "self-absorbed." Do you mean he was arrogant in writing all his songs about himself? Or do you just mean absorbed in his own life and he just put it into songs? As I've said, most of his songs were autobiographical, and I believe they were an outlet for his emotions; after all, there was a lot of emotional confusion and sadness in his life. The singer is said to be "seriously considering" a permanent role on the show, along with Park and singing coach Carrie Grant, who are returning for a second series. "Yes, they are in talks," said a spokeswoman for the singer. "He has been approached to do it and has been talking to Endemol. "So far nothing is 100% agreed, but I think he'll be making his decision any time now. As I understand it, it would be to appear alon---de the headmaster Richard Park and voice coach Carrie Grant." Other names in the frame for Fame Academy 2 include the former Factory Records boss Tony Wilson - otherwise known as Mr Manchester. His appointment is expected to be announced on Monday, when the BBC officially launches the second series of Fame Academy. The corporation has also approached a number of celebrities to give day-long masterclasses to contestants on the TV show. Gibb, who has just released a solo album, would take a much bigger role in the show than Lionel Ritchie and Shania Twain, who made guest appearances on the first series of the reality talent show. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
