And all three of them were really nice to the crowd. So I guess I was just expecting his nice-ness on a one-on-one level when I finally got to talk to him personally. So, as I said, I was like 200th in line and we've all had to wait for him to start and I kinda wanted to say a few things to him..like he was the first crush I had when I was four and watched the Monkees on Saturday mornings and stuff like that...so when you are waiting in line for so long ..you kinda start rehearsing this....so, I finally get up to Davy (this happened in 1987 I think, so I was like 23 or so) and I took a deep breath and like blurted out what I wanted him to hear me say to him in one felt swoop/breath. He looks at me and says .."Well, you better take it easy" and kinda shoved my now "signed" book back at me and just looked at the next person in line. Hey, a thank you wouldn't have taken much more effort and would have left a better taste in my mouth after being a fan for like 20 years instead of me being here 15 years later telling people what a jerk he was. I guess I just had much higher expectations--common courtesy...a thank you.. a smile...maybe a 10 second interaction asking me how the weather was outside..I don't know..but not "Well, you better take it easy" and shove a book that I just spend like $29.95 for back in my face. Hey, I just spent a few weekends pulling all nighters taping every Monkee episode on the Monkee marathons on MTV on my (please don't laugh) Betamax machine!! Barry, Robin and Maurice not only lived up to my expectations, but surpassed them many times over. They each gave me time to thank them and say how much their music and them as people meant to me in my life...and they were like that to all the fans that were there. They have some conception that the fans were the reason why they were still around and they knew the minute or two they spent with each fan was monumental..not only to the fans spending the minutes or so with them ...but important to them as the Bee Gees, too to interact with the people that love them so much. The Bee Gees are just a class act...lets just say I must have caught Davy on a bad day....maybe a spat with the wife or his kids stole his lucky pen for the book signing..or maybe his dog ate his paycheck. And I thought it was really wild that he dated Lulu...a Bee Gee coincidence I just found out about a few years ago. -Sonya Fairfield, CT --part1_30.439bd4f7.2c4b6ea3_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 00:09:44 EDT From: BevSully@aol.com Subject: Re: Spirits Tour --part1_ae.4460b324.2c4b7008_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 7/16/03 12:02:38 PM Eastern Daylight Time, ListMember@brothersgibb.com writes: > Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City Hi Jan: What a great reunion!! I was in a hardware store yesterday making a purchase when a couple of men came into the store and one of them was mentioning the Bee Gees and Maurice Gibb. Seems he had seen my Bee Gees license plate out in the parking lot and that sparked a discussion between them. When I told him I was the one with the Bee Gees license plate, he said something about a couple of them dying recently. Of course, I set him straight as to who died and when. Then he said something about disco never lasting that long. Naturally, I had to point out that the Bee Gees were never a disco band. Always spreading the word. ;o) ~8^) Pat Wong (ICQ #61070813) http://www.napathon.net/ - Music Around The World For collecting tips, trade and want lists, album reviews and more. http://www.brothersgibb.com Bee Gees News and Information ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [07/20/2003 06:01] ----------------------------------------------------
