Maurice had been in bed (in the hospital) for several days before he died. Medical explanation: When you're asleep in your bed, the disks that separate the vertebrae in your spinal column expand just a bit. This separation can give your height a little boost, but it all goes away during the day. According to NASA, astronauts get to enjoy the extra height that "microgravity" bequeaths them until they come home to Earth. Researchers in Australia are in the midst of a six-month experiment measuring a man and a woman every day to learn more about this very subject. They're finding that people are indeed taller after lying down. This works any time of the day, they say. So theoretically, you could lie down on the couch for a nap, and wake up taller. Sitting and standing compact our vertebral column, especially the intervertebral disks. It's also possible that the muscles holding us up might get tired, because the more strenuous your daily activities, the more height you lose. My biggest petpeeve about this list is those who send those "covert" messages, usually one-liners, postulating that they know some "secrets" or "inside information" about the Gibbs that we don't, then refuse to elaborate. It's simply ridiculous to act like you know more than us, but then refuse to disclose how you know. I'm unimpressed. I totally agree, Yvonne. My guess is that they don't know as much as they'd like us to think they do. If not, I think it's extremely bad mannered for people to hint at private bits of info or 'in' jokes when addressing others if they're not willing to share them. Marie, I have told this story a few times on the list and didn't want to bore anybody by repeating myself, but you've given me permission to do so, so here goes :-) My husband and I flew to Sydney for the concert, and the day before we visited Manly Beach (yes, it really is called that) and walked along the footpath/sidewalk above the beach on a very warm March day. My husband spotted Robin walking towards us because he was wearing a lovely bluish purple jacket over a white t-shirt and jeans and my husband was thinking "who's the Wally wearing a jacket on a beach on such a hot day?" He said to me "That's...ummm..that's...umm" and I looked at him expecting him to give me the name of one of his chiropractic patients. He said "That was Robin Gibb". I turned a looked at him from the back and recognised him and decided this was the only opportunity I would ever have of meeting one of the brothers, so I walked quickly after him. He was with two bodyguards or friends and I said to him "Excuse me, Mr. Gibb". He turned around and smiled and I said "We have come over especially for your concert tomorrow night, and can I tell you that I absolutely adore your music!" He replied "Well, thank you very much, and I hope you enjoy the concert". I said "There's no doubt about that!" and we turned and I presume he walked away. I don't know for sure, because I was floating!! Outside of immediate family things, this was the absolute highlight of my life and something I will never forget. Actually it was quite funny, because for the week before the concert my husband and I were walking around Sydney a lot and I would wonder, aloud, if we would see the boys that day. Just hoping and kidding, but it really happened. We had no camera or even a slip of paper for Robin to sign, but I have the memory to keep. He was so jovial and fun and he really spent time with all of the fans on board. Then, during day two (at the Fountainbleu Hilton) Robin and Barry along with Maurice attended and they basically didn't really leave until they got to meet everyone. (Robin left a little early..he was tired) I had my picture taken with all 3 and let me tell you the next morning I was at the 1 hour photo and didn't leave until all the pictures were developed and in my hands. Don't forget that Barry's withdrawal from musical activities began a year before Maurice died. While he's got to be hard hit by the loss of his brother and working partner, that's not the only thing going on. Because he was so driven and lived in the studio for so much of his life, this is a very significant change. I cannot say I know the reason, but it bears watching. But I'd write off the rest of this year. If he wants to sit home and watch videos, why not.
