We went to visit my aunt Florence once, who took up a teaching job in Brisbane Australia. While we were there, my dad took us to a racetrack out in Redcliffe (it was cheap entertainment...) Between the races, three boys came out and sang a couple of songs, and people started throwing coins at them. I remember my dad saying that those kids had a lot of talent. He went on to say that he wouldn't be at all surprised if, someday, they went on to become international singing stars, who then break up due to personal differences, get back together -- having learned the importance of family ties -- and then go on to become one of the five top selling groups of all time. Or something like that. It was hard to pay attention, because, all I could think about was that those coins the singers were getting could have bought me an ice pop. Besides, I was hardly more than a year old, so my memories of the event might be a little off... Well, Joe it seemed rather obvious to me, that this was that long-anticipated live album of their Northern "One Night Only" concert in support of "Brilliant From Birth." Naturally, I just assumed that this had been omitted from Da Book due to space limitations... A most unusual concert is was, too. Since Festival Records showed that their 1963 recording contract specified concert support of previously unreleased material, the brothers HAD to perform some of their Australian tunes once "Brilliant From Birth" came out. It was, of course, a "One Night Only" performance, in Batley's Variety Club (back where Maurice met Yvonne, you'll recall). It was a live concert of nothing but Australian tunes, and you can actually hear the audience growing restless as the songs progress. At one point, Barry offered to perform a tune he'd written back in Sydney that hadn't made it to record just yet. Someone in the audience said something rude in reply, I think it was "avaroo" or something like that. Some of our overseas friends can explain what "avaroo" means in this context, perhaps. Anyway, in response to the "avaroo," Barry muttered "kiss my arse" and the band kicked into the old song, called "Technicolor Dreams." This live performance made it onto the "This Is Where I Came In" album, and the reason you hear no applause at the end was simply because, well, there WAS no applause at the end. People were leaving in droves by that point, bitterly disappointed that no post-Australia stuff was being performed. I can see why this was never really publicized, of course... David Garcia, who figures, if anyone on eBay can give a description that ridiculous, well, he doesn't mind being even more ridiculous still in Staten Island, NY garcia10303@yhaoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Wonder if that was the same 3 little boys I once saw at the Gaumount in Manchester back in 1955 (6)? There I was, all bobby-socks and pigtails, enjoying the main feature, when these skinny little lads came onto the stage at the interval. I immediately fell for the tallest one.....a bit lanky, but pretty cute with it. They sang beautifully....a lovely childish lisping version of "Lollipop"....or was it "I Love You Baby"...or even "Wake Up Little Susie" ????? (LOL) I was too fascinated by the "cheese-board with household wire" guitar to pay attention. There was a strange, faint whiff of burning timber....always wondered about that!!! One day, I might just find out what happened to those little lads......did they "go down" for arson....or did they make the "Big Time". Anyone know...........???? NOPE!!! Gotta be the extra-ordinarily rare "Argentina Only" album that was selling like hot-cakes on EBAY about a year ago!! You know....the very-limited-edition one that Barry had stock-piled at Middle Ear, and even posted personally :o) :o) :o) Should be worth mega-bucks by now :o) Jean --part1_2d.210356b4.2a7ab08c_boundary-- ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [08/01/2002 12:01] ----------------------------------------------------
