It stands out that there is a lot of energy in it. I have seen several other concerts. The greatest experience was the One for All tour in Copenhagen in 89. It was a very small place with only about 3500 persons and it was shortly after Andys dead. There was a very melancolic feeling during the whole concert. Their music has always been very melancolic but I found that this evening in this small place - and beeing so close - only 5.6 meters, was something special. And no taped vocals then. Only them and 3 brilliant girls singing backing. I remember I was amazed by the power of Barrys voice. It was the first time I heard them live. They had great reviews in the newspapers the day after, and the leading radio station playd their music the whole day after. But after catching them very early in the "Main Course" tour (before "Jive Talkin'" had become a hit) with the Manhattan Horns and the small army of synthesizers manned by Blue Weaver and Geoff Westley, I decided that the new approach worked fine for me, thank you very much. I was lucky enough to catch them twice on the Spirits tour (opening night in Fort Worth, a culmination of a month-long pre-concert hysteria in the media and the last concert of the first leg in Oklahoma City) and agree that there was a lot of magic in that particular tour. I'm sure that the manpower costs associated with 19 performers on stage is a factor in the approach they take to their "live" performances now. After attending both the Las Vegas and Ft. Lauderdale concerts, I long for something resembling the 1979 or 1989 tours, with no pre-recorded parts (or at least none that are as obvious as what we've seen recently). I think dropping the backup singers and percussionists were unfortunate decisions. They had a jewel with them in Europe in 1991 and in the few promo appearances they did in support of "Size" in the person of Crystal Taliefero. She could fill the shoes of several people as she sings, plays sax, guitar, and percussion. Billy Joel has used her to great advantage in his shows. I wish the Gibbs would do the same. Her cohort in 1991 and 1993, Pat Petersen, could fill in on piano, as well. Alas, I fear that what we'll see next time (if there is one) is cardboard cutouts of the three brothers propped up on stage while "The Record" is piped in throughout the PA system (egads!). I'm married with children , although I have recently caught bits and pieces of a couple episodes of "Trading Spaces". Again . . . egads! It was just me, making the classic mistake of using a regional expression on a multi-national forum....and Ronnie politely pointing out the possible innuendo (trust him!!!). As previously corrected....."Barry punching Alice Cooper" is much more acceptable. And I am suitably (and deservedly) "told off".....LOLOL!!!!!!!
