Andrew Mere speculation, but in an interview in the 90's Maurice had said that someone in the industry suggested that they change their name. This was apparently during the "backlash" period. Maybe they sent out a record with "The Gibb Brothers" as their name. Perhaps just as a feeler? Probably not, but who knows? sal ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Feb 2006 00:07:25 -0000 From: "Julian Glass" Subject: RE: Digest (02/23/2006 21:01) (#2006-1784) No, I think Robin has always had a cultural bent so this is just a way of expressing it. Julian " Robin used French and Italian lyrics in some part of Lamplight and August October. What's the reasoning behind this? He attempted to draw the attention from French and Italian audiences?" So far as I know, the only German language that Robin used was www.robingibb.de :) Robert ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 13:21:48 -0800 (PST) From: Marty Hogan Subject: August October November -<<<<<<<<----Original Message----- From: listmember@brothersgibb.com [mailto:listmember@brothersgibb.com] On Behalf Of Joseph Brennan Sent: 23 February 2006 01:15 To: words List Member Subject: [words] The mono version of August October > I thought the line goes "it's curtains today" > > Sal Shhh, he'll go nuts trying to get the alternate vocal where Robin says "it's over today". I have the ONLY COPY IN EXISTENCE. The lyrics of this song are so bad that I have actually willed myself not to hear them correctly. Joe Brennan>>>>>>> That is so weird! My Mono copy says, "...it's certain today!" I had it analyzed at UC at Berkeley last night where a friend of mine majors in "musical linguistics". He swears that is what Robin is singing through 'computer analytical conversion' Marty From SF ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 13:23:41 -0800 (PST) From: Marty Hogan Subject: Nights On Broadway <<<<<>>>> No joke here. Barry sings falsetto back-up three times on this song. One left, one right and the third is centered. Listen carefully. (My favorite song). Hi, Jan. I was fortunate to go to L&H. :) It was fantastic. The family members who were there that I saw and/or talked to were Mum Gibb, Linda, Stephen, Ashley and Therese, Travis, Michael, Ali, and Spencer. I did not see any of the grandchildren at the ball, but I did get to see Lucas the day before...what a little cutie. Linda was not there very long as she had been very sick. I hope by now she is doing much better. Also, I did not see Dwina, Yvonne, Adam or Sam. Robin did write some rather strange lyrics during that period - but, despite that, I only felt it right and proper to call in a Shipston-On-Stour while I was in the area last Tuesday! Several of Robin's songs from that period have rather strange lyrics, and this one doesn't seem particularly unusual for him. Besides, I could easily think of plenty of hits singles by other people that have at least equally nonsensical lyrics or monotonous repetition of about two lines. I have to say it is one of my favourite tracks from 'Robin's Reign', but definitely not because of the lyrics..
