I've always felt that on the vocal level Barry and Robin did the bulk of carrying the group anyway. So blending with a backup voice as close to Mo's voice as they can get into the mix wh Lois S. I was thinking more in regards to vocals than instruments. The vocals has been, is and will be the Gibb brothers pivotal point to me and with the loss of Mo we lost a big part of what was the Bee Gees as a vocal group. Who plays what is of a lesser concern as far as I am concerned. When Maurice died, one of my first horrified thoughts was that, indeed, the Bee Gees had died at that moment. I consoled myself later with the realization that that could never actually happen. My concern over giving up the name is a purely selfish one, albeit selfish for them. As the fifth-ranked musical artists of all time, I was hoping with every possibility of a new album, it would strengthen their hold on that amazing accomplishment. While I never hoped to see them surpass the top 4, the prospect of their place being usurped by some of the music "talent" out there was and is abhorrent. Will a name change affect their position among the best-selling artists of all time? Since Bee Gees stands (for the most part) for Brothers Gibb, would a switch to that name continue them in their future standing? Such thoughts are beyond trivial when compared to what Maurice's family is continuing to suffer, but I find that my thoughts and emotions tend to be tangled still. To whomever transcribed the Robin interview ... thanks. Since "Please" has yet to be released in America, and my computer won't let me download anything that big, it was my first real glimpse at Robin's song. It is haunting, how true some of the lyrics are in the chorus, as is the picture inside the "This Is Where I Came In" album. Shannon ... I have the same regrets you do. I feel like I could have shown up at Middle Ear Studio sometime this summer, knocked on the door and asked Mo to take his pick, teach me paintball or piano. Though I would prefer the piano lesson, I get the feeling Maurice would have insisted on the paintball lesson in his own unique and funny way. I take some comfort in knowing I will get the chance to meet him someday and thank him for all he and his brothers have done ( and maybe still get that lesson ). That will happen to you too. And from what I have read about Lulu's comments ... don't get me started. I've always had a problem with her personality ... and was very disgusted to learn she may have attended the funeral. She has always seemed very pompous ... whereas the few times I've read or heard Yvonne, Linda, Dwina, or Molly ( now there's a blast from the past ) they are just as down to earth and humble as their husbands are. All that said, if Yvonne was cool with Lulu being at the funeral, then I can be too. Yvonne was so good to him ... and him to her. Has anyone heard how she is doing? I, for one, feel that this is the right thing for them to do. The Bee Gees was the three of them, and that beautiful sound can never be duplicated. HOWEVER, I am thrilled that both Barry and Robin are planning to continue with their music. My daughter and I are eagerly awaiting Robin's new CD and look forward to the future projects of these two extremely talented musicians. Maurice's loss will be felt forever. However, I think, as fans, we have much to look forward to! It could still be a Bee Gees album. The big question is do they have the material? Given the relatively low output over the last several years my guess is that they have plenty in the can. This would be the best thing they could do right now Sal ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [01/24/2003 00:02] ----------------------------------------------------
