They said they could not go on stage using the name - short for Brothers Gibb - without him. Robin will say on GMTV today: "I think the important thing is we go forward for Maurice. "Anything we do, we will do together, but as brothers and not under the name of the Bee Gees. That will be reserved in history as the three of us." Maurice, 53, had a heart attack 11 days ago after surgery on his intestines. Maurice Gibb's death meant the end of the legendary band, his surviving twin Robin told British television. Robin, 53, said he and older brother Barry, 56, had decided they could not continue performing under the name following Maurice's death nine days ago in a US hospital. "Anything Barry and I do, we will do together but it will be as brothers and not under the name of the Bee Gees - that will be reserved in history as the three of us," he told ITV morning program GMTV. "We don't want to be the Bee Gees again. I think me and Barry have agreed to that. "I think we'll be whatever we want to be together, but we wouldn't use the name because the Bee Gees to us was the three brothers, and in Maurice's name we would respect that and not be the Bee Gees anymore." His comments contradict Barry's vow days after Maurice's death that the group would continue as a tribute to their dead brother. Robin said he and Barry would continue to produce music together. "I think the important thing is that we go forward for Maurice. Maurice would want that," he said. The Bee Gees - Brothers Gibb - formed in Queensland in the late 1950s and signed their first record contract in 1963 before going on to become the fifth best-selling act in history. They found fame in the 1960s with their distinctive close-harmony singing but became superstars in 1977 with their disco soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Maurice died earlier this month after surgery to correct a twisted bowel and a blockage in his small intestine. His family have questioned the treatment he received ------=_NextPart_000_01A5_01C2C1F7.8AAF43A0-- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 10:39:47 +0100 From: "Toni Quintana" Subject: The Bee Gees This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0120_01C2C202.9595F0B0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable 12/01/2003: We lost Mo. 22/01/2003: We lost The Bee Gees. They pair said they want to respect his memory - and using the band's name without him would not be right. Maurice, 53, had a heart attack earlier this month after being admitted to hospital with an intestinal blockage. Twin Robin, who recently released his first solo album in 15 years, told GMTV: "I think the important thing is we go forward for Maurice. "Anything we do, we will do together, but it'll be as brothers and not under the name of the Bee Gees. That will be reserved in history as the three of us. "Maurice would want us to continue. It will obviously take a bit of time to get back to the point where you feel excited about creating. "I don't think it will affect the type of writing that we do, I don't think that we have to get morose in our writing, but it will certainly inspire us to go forward and to be creative in Maurice's name." Maurice had been working with Barry in Miami on a new Bee Gees album before his death. I have not seen the interview with Robin. But in "my world" the Bee Gees = will always be "stayin' alive". And I know that nothing will be the same = after Maurice, but still I believe that they will continue as the Bee = Gees, 'cause Maurice would have it like that, as well as if it were one = of the others. I have a dream - the cover of the next Bee Gees-album, could be named = "One 2" and in the front a mixed photo of Barry and Robin together in = one with a slight image of Maurice. I remember when "Travelling = Wilburys" released an album after Roy Orbisons dead, they just left his = guitar on the cover, just to remember him. So, lets see - and then hope. Miracles do happen.
