There must be a mistake with this Belfast appearance because Robin will be in Europe the whole week at the beginning of February. On the 7th of February he will do a showcase in Ulm for 300 fans (yes, I am one of the lucky ones) for a local radio station. On the 6th he will be in Munich. January 21, 2003 They helped teach us the value of stayin' alive, so there was an outpouring of interest when one of them passed away. This week, high above the Lycos 50, you'll find the memory of Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees (#5). Gibb's death spurred more searches than any rock and roll passing we've tracked, with the exception of George Harrison. It ranks higher than the deaths of Joe Strummer of The Clash (#33 three weeks ago), Joey Ramone of The Ramones (#14 in April 2001), John Entwistle of The Who (#19 in July 2002), and Layne Staley of Alice in Chains (#23 in April 2002). Like the death of Entwistle -- and unlike the deaths of the others -- we received many more searches for Gibb's band than we did for him. This week we've got 50 times as many Bee Gees searches as usual, plus searches for Maurice himself along with brothers Andy, Robin, and Barry. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 20:56:51 +0300 From: Edward Vlasov Subject: Are the Beatles Jewish? What I wanted to say, today is the 9th day. Based on Orthodox tradition, perhaps, the 9th day is a day of remembering. It's as important as the 40th day. All I know is that people get together on those days. OK, some peoples drink vodka (let's not point at them), but I don't and it's okay. Eddy p.s. Also I'd like to know about Mick Jagger and Stevie Wonder. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 07:46:36 +1300 From: "Ann" Subject: Re: Australia and New Zealand... I believe > the ones that know we are fans and haven't said anything to us just feel very awkward about it. Also, I think it just doesn't occur to people to send condolences when it isn't actually a member of the family, so fans shouldn't take it too personally. In my circle, although people recognise that I would be upset, they just didn't understand how much it means to me and I didn't expect too much sympathy, which is just as well, as I didn't get a lot, although my husband, who is not a fan, was very understanding. In fact he was quite sad, as he always said that Mo was his favourite Bee Gee, because he liked his down to earth attitude and his sense of humour. Obviously it is far worse for the family, as they are the ones who's life is instantly affected. I seem to have recovered from the initial shock and I've even been feeling quite cheerful for the last couple of days, but I think the time when it's really going to sink in is if they do a concert or TV show with just the two of them, although, at the same time, I hope that they will do this. I think that, along with most fans, I'll have some very mixed emotions and it's then that I'm really going to miss Mo being there. Date: Monday, January 21, 2003 10:25am From: Holly Hiraoka, leihalia@gte.net Subject: It's been one week since... It's been a week since Maurice passed, and the question "why?" keeps repeating in my heart and mind. I know from experience that the old cliché is right and it will get better with time, but for now it's still fresh and difficult to comprehend. It has helped reading about how many people thought so highly of Maurice and how so many of us are suffering. If Maurice could read the postings of the past week he would probably be overwhelmed by the love and admiration so many people had for him and the sorrow that so many people are feeling right now. I hope he knew while he was still alive how many people loved and admired him...anyway I was listening to "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and these words really rang true to my feelings: When the lonely heart breaks It's the one that forsakes It's the dream that we stole And I'm missing you more And the fire that will roar There's a hole in my soul For you it's goodbye And for me it's to cry For whom the bell tolls... I wouldn't know about the film or TV industry, but I have first hand experience with the Music Industry. > Say, wonder if Festival Records is still signing up > promising songwriters...?>> Festival/Musiroom Records is run by James Murdoch I beliv, who of course is, one of Rupert Murdoch's sons. The Murdoch family of course, owns the Fox network. On a business note, the Australian dollar is rocketing, and knocking on the door of 70 US cents. It hasn't been that strong for a long time -- actually since the government de-valued the dollar in the 1980s. In recent years, the dollar dropped as low as 51US cents. scary. Speaking of New Zealand rivalry, the Kiwi economy is something to be jealous about. Their dollar is still lower than ours of course (although giving us a run for our money), but their internal economy is booming. I wouldn't know for sure, (maybe some NZ's on here could clear it up), but I heard that like the Aus government, the NZ government encourages their people to buy NZ products. However, the NZ made products are well priced compare to their imports. In Australia it is the other way around. I would like to buy Australian all the time, but I have noticed that Australian made products seem to always be more expencive than the imports. I'm on a tight budget (since forever), and it gives me the real pips to see that. -- Julie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 16:41:16 -0500 (EST) From: jivetalkinmom@webtv.net Subject: Remembering Maurice Hello Everyone, As I watched the A&E bio on Friday evening, I found myself smiling in spite of the sadness.
