According to the band's management, the service will be open to family and close friends only. As previously reported, 53-year-old Gibb died on Sunday following emergency surgery that was complicated by cardiac arrest prior to the procedure. "All of us at Kovac Media Group are deeply saddened by Maurice's passing", manager Allen Kovac said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with Maurice's family and his many friends and fans who loved him. "He was a truly talented artist and a wonderful man full of wit and passion for life. We know that our sorrow is shared by those he touched in the music industry and by millions of music fans across the world." Kovac has asked that in place of flowers, donations be sent in Maurice's name to the Andy Gibb Memorial Foundation, c/o Dade Community Foundation, 200 South Biscayne Blvd. Suite 505, Miami, Florida 33131-2343, or to the charity of the sender's choice. From BRIAN FLYNN in New York THE brothers of tragic Bee Gee Maurice Gibb yesterday blasted doctors who treated him and said: "Someone is responsible for his death." Barry and Robin Gibb claimed a Miami hospital wasted time and made mistakes after the pop legend was admitted with stomach pains. The grieving brothers attacked surgeons for operating on Maurice's blocked intestine after the 53-year-old star had a heart attack. And they vowed to uncover the truth about every moment of his stay at Mount Sinai Medical Centre. Barry said: "The fact they had to operate on Maurice during the shock of cardiac arrest is very questionable. "Things went wrong, protocol was not followed. Someone is responsible for the death of our brother, one of the world's greatest recording artists, and it wasn't necessary. "We will pursue every factor, every second of the final hours of Maurice's life. That will be our quest from now." The brothers said medics took too long to diagnose Maurice after he was rushed to hospital suffering stomach problems last Wednesday. The star had a heart attack at 4am the next day, then underwent emergency surgery on his intestines. He never regained full consciousness and died on Sunday. Barry, 56, said: "The surgeons decided that whatever caused the cardiac arrest was the reason they should act immediately, even though Maurice was in shock." Robin, Maurice's twin, added: "We believe mistakes were made and time was wasted. Someone will be held to account." The brothers vowed to continue as the Bee Gees despite losing Maurice, who played bass and keyboards as well as sang. --=====================_25738267==_.ALT-- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2003 12:25:18 -0500 From: Joseph Brennan Subject: SPV newsletter SPV says (hastily translated by computer, this is "German as she is spoke")...
