(#2008-4213) - Topics this issue: 1) Lead Vocals on Daytime Girl, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2008 19:48:18 EDT From: CAPT1SEPT@aol.com Subject: Re: Lead Vocals on Daytime Girl But I admit it's far from certain. Maurice's comment makes me wonder sometimes whether it's Maurice and Barry together on verse 1, even though it sounds like one voice. Check "Kitty Can" which is stated to be Maurice and Barry on the LP sleeve. It seems to be both of them together on the whole song. Here's another thought: in the booklet for the "Horizontal," it's mentioned the Bee Gees made a previous attempt at recording "Day Time Girl," and for whatever reason, weren't pleased with the results. Could the first version of the song have featured Maurice and Barry on vocals, with that version being the one that Maurice was thinking of when he replied to the fan as to who was singing lead on the song? My guess is that maybe Maurice and Barry blended in together too well and couldn't get a grip on their harmonies, so it was tried with Maurice and Robin, with better results. Regarding "Kitty Can," Barry and Maurice practically sing together on almost the entire song. However, the middle verse is sung solo but who's handling the solo? I usually think of "Kitty Can" as being Maurice's song, since he's listed first on the vocals credit. But, there are times when I'm playing the song and think, no, that's Barry I'm hearing and other times when I think the two traded off on the vocals of that particular verse. It's the same impression I get with the verses on "Melody Fair:" sometimes it sounds like Barry, only to sound like Maurice on another part of the verse. The first time I ever heard the song, I thought it was totally Maurice with Barry and Robin being heard in the chorus. Course, maybe it's Barry with the main lead vocal on the verses but with an overdubbed vocal from Maurice that was blended with Barry's voice? Peace, Frank **************Need a new ride?
