(#2008-4159) - Topics this issue: 1) You'll Never See My Face Again, 2) You'll Never See My Face Again, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2008 09:13:51 +0100 From: "Maggie Bleksley" Subject: Re: You'll Never See My Face Again I wouldn't thinks so, as Robin left after this had been recorded and as he chose to leave them, I'd have thought he would be the one to say that. I've just been listening to 'How Can You Mend a Broken Heart' on BBC Radio 2. A nice surprise, as I haven't heard that one for ages and probably never on the radio. The strange thing was, it was obviously the version from an early copy of 'The Record', as Barry was singing the lead all the way through. It occurred to me that those responsible for its being played are probably blissfully unaware of its rarity value! I don't hear Robin. "Marley Purt Drive" also has M singing with B on many lines. "Give Your Best" has two lead vocal tracks and they're not perfectly in sync which makes me guess it is again B & M rather than two tracks of B. Not that M is sloppy, and I think it is deliberately sung this way, but I wonder whether B could make himself do it! "Suddenly" sounds to me like M on all vocals. I agree all sing on the choruses of "Lamplight" and "Odessa". I am not sure about "Never Say Never Again" but probably yes, because R later commented about the lyrics. So on the whole, Maurice's vocals are more noticeable than before, and he's also singing the lower end sometimes. Both things are driven by Robin's partial absence, but Barry had to hear what a nice sound he was getting by singing with Maurice on the country-rock stuff. Back to the first question-- beats me. By this time there must have been thoughts of the group breaking up in all their minds.
