There may be other ways to showcase what Barry learned from Arif. But at this moment I am thinking of the Gibb-penned song "Why" on Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing". I don't know music terms like some on the list, but the way the music changes near the end from one sound to another, then somewhat back to the original has always struck me as a simlar technique to the one towards the end of "Fanny" and "She's Gone", a song sung by Hall and Oates but I do believe produced by Arif Marden. To that end, Barry most certainly learned something from Arif in the 1970s. As you stated, there is other evidence Barry continued to learn from Arif in the later years as well. I wonder if they liked John McEnroe? (Who I think is great, especially after everything my Dad's told me about him.) John McEnroe doesn't like the Bee Gees, however. Here's a quote from his autobiography "Serious" - he's describing going out in the 1970s with his friend Vitas Gerulaitis. "It was the height of disco, an incredible scene - blasting music and blazing lights; designer jeans and designer drugs. (That MUSIC, though - it was awful! Even as I gaped around, with the Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor and Donner Summer blasting in my ears, I missed my favourites: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Stones." You've got to love Mac, though. Good old McEnroe...SuperBrat. "You CANNOT be SERIOUS! That ball was ON THE LINE! Chalk flew up! It was clearly in! How can you POSSIBLY call that out? How many are you going to MISS?...Everyone knows it's in, in the whole STADIUM - and you call it out? Explain that to me, explain that to me!" John's great. I was listening to him commentate at Murray's match today. For anyone out there who goes onto the chat page at Barry's forum, maybe one of you could ask him sometime if he liked/likes John McEnroe. Just to see.
