Barbra is a pure talent. She did not ask Neil or Barry to open for her, she is smarter than that. That was just a rumor. I agree that the success of Guilty was due in a large part to the Bee Gees success at that time. They And to let you know about the ticket prices. In Vegas they are $100-$1,000. The GOOD seats are more than $1500 in most places. A little over my budget, so I will pass and wait for the DVD which I dare say will be less than $50. Maybe not as much hum Nancy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2006 18:40:54 EDT From: Compoccias@aol.com Subject: Re: Digest (06/23/2006 21:01) (#2006-2188) In a message dated 6/23/2006 10:31:09 PM Eastern Standard Time, teknikolordreams@gmail.com writes: >Where did "This Is Where I Came In" chart in the UK and USA? I know a lot of people thought it was the wrong choice for a single, but I think it had a shot. Sadly, no promotion, no airplay, no hit. Grant One of their best songs that missed IMO. The songs were not that >great and no one wanted to promote it so therefore it failed. The songs were good, that wasn't the problem. As for the lack of promotion, well that was on Barbra. Ultimately, it was her album and she refused to promote it. Instead, she belittled the album in an attempt to stick it to her record company. My guess, Barry had to be dissappointed. Some news alerts say some of her "fans" who paid mega bucks for her "Farewell concert" a while back are crying "fraud" when they found out she's doing more concerts. Hmmm..... Speaking of Barbra's concert ticket prices....the most outrageous one I found on the Tickets Now site for her 1st Madison Square Garden performance, Oct. 9 in NY. I wonder if "sleeping privileges" with her are included in this cost. Uh, that's not the ONLY reason. Streisand fans bought the album, too (and not necessarily because of Barry).....but because of Barbra and her voice....which is just as good as ever. Guilty Pleasures went to No. 5 on the pop charts here when released.....and the BeeGees (with Barry) last album "This Is Where I Came In...didn't even chart here in the US. Guess the Streisand fans didn't care to buy that one. Expectations were high for Barry and Barbra to re-do the magic from their "Guilty" success....it didn't happen. Barbra's not "hungry" anymore to break into contemporary music as she was in 1980. She's done it all....and very successfully with all the awards to prove it. She was less than enthusiastic about promoting Guilty Pleasures. I think she enjoyed working with Barry.....but that's it. She's moved on to political activism on a full-time basis. >she want barry or neil diamond to be a "opening act >for her' yea right can you see barry gibb opening for barbra, not in this life > time. Would not be surprised if Barry or Neil show up to sing at one of her 20 concert series. Not as an opening act (she's already got that).....but to sing a song or two with her. Maybe you also overlook the fact that any credit you might have earned for contributing to a certain Barbra Streisand album went elsewhere. I don't know if it was really ever put out there in so many words, but we saw the aftermath: a contentious return to form for "Living Eyes", and then three ensuing "solo" careers. My guess is Robin wasn't particularly happy with the direction of things. Grant I've had similar opinions on this issue, and yes I'm sure all the wild sucess and money they were making during that period kept the lid on any dissention (not to mention the painful lesson they had learned from the painful break-up 10 years earlier). As you point out, though, things got complicated real fast after the Fever era passed, and not just with Robin, but Maurice as well (and Stigwood).
